"Alright, so where do we go from here?" I asked Ghost as Cameron, and I started moving again. Each of us were getting prepared for what we felt like was the end of the world. Sidriks looked out over the cliffs of the mountains beyond and loaded his wire rifle. "Are you two alright?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm all right."
"Same here, let's get moving."
The four of us then started running over the grass on the field close to the abandoned buildings. The foliage was somewhat covered in water in places making a splashing sound as we kept heading steadfastly toward our objective. The tree's above for some points along would tend to shelter us from the rain, at least for a moment. The sky above was still slightly gray, but with the sun shining through in spots. As we kept running, I looked over to my right to see some structures sunk into the lake that bordered the coastline. Upon turning to my left and kept moving forward I noticed another one of the vex structures, looking out over the abandoned city like an evil god or king would have his castle looming overhead.
I noticed that as we were moving forward, some rock formations began to rise around the path that we traveled, they looked like they were changed or misshapen by one of the nearby volcanoes. Perhaps that was what happened here, the volcanoes erupted so violently and so suddenly, that when the magma seeped out onto the surface, it burned away the rock causing significant portions of the city to fall into the sea. We then arrived at an underpass, forged from the same stone and covered in flora, some vines were dangling down from the top of the cavern and into the tunnel itself. Once we cleared the tunnel, we found ourselves at some old structures, made by the vex. However, just like the structures, the humans made long ago, these were coated in plants.
"Remarkable," I stated looking slightly over to my left to a structure underneath a cliff. Then three fallen appeared close to the structure, two vandals and one dreg however they were focused on the vex that were in the area rather than us. Without any hesitation, Aaron fired his sniper rifle into each of the fallen dropping them all in little under ten seconds. After he had cleared the fallen, I walked over to the mysterious structure. I started looking at it a little closer, the stone that had made it was coated in overgrowth and damage. However there was one part of the structure that was not damaged at all, it was brownish but not due to rust, perhaps it was made out of brass or some kind of unknown metal.
The others moved over to me as I continued looking at this mysterious gate. "What is this?" I asked looking over to them.
All of them shook their heads, telling me that they had no idea as to what this could be or what it was for.
"I think I know where we can find out, the research station." Ghost stated in reply.
With that in mind, we all began making way toward the station. After we had cleared some of the cliffs that blanketed the area, we came to a vex tunnel, and the tower in the sky continued getting closer. We kept running down the hill that had come after the tunnel structure, and the rain had stopped, ahead of us was a small ravine filled with trees and vines eventually making way to a massive clearing, The clearing was covered in vex ruins, with the same features of parts being covered in plant life. At the center was a large brass door with a gleaming light emitting from it, I could only wonder what lied beyond that door, yet somehow I had a feeling that I would find out. Whether I wanted to know or not.
"These ruins predate humanity by a few billion years," Aaron commented.
"A few billion years?"
"Yeah, or at least that's what the scouting team said when they found the place. They did some sort of geological dating method and set it around that time."
