~REWRITTEN~ Enjoy.
Levi's POV:
"Sir! A group of rebels have been spotted in the fifth district, they said they were moving very quickly. Do we send an extermination team or let it be?"
"No, they will be gone by the time we get there. Send trackers, see where they went and what they did"
"Sir Ackerman Sir! Two calls from district three, both reporting animal attacks. We think it may be rebels Sir, they are mid assault!"
"Send squad...4 there. Hanji will take care of the animals."
Back and forth, this was my life now.
My life as a Smith official. The highest ranking of official, right under Emperor Smith himself obviously. I sat in a chair, people yelling problems at me of which I needed to sort out. I was seated in a large room, a black cloak draped around my shoulders, a cane in my hands. Sure, my job was an official, didn't mean I didn't have to look classy. There were people sitting at desks surrounding me, staring and talking at the floating screens before them, then proceeding to tell their messenger which in turn told me of the big problems.
The voices around me were either muffled or amplified, depending on who they were talking to. The reason for this were the frames set over everyone's mouth's. Everyone in the large five district city wore masks, ranging from small mediocre ones to ones that enhanced your senses beyond what a normal human could detect. They varied in size and color.
Everyone's mask showed what kind of life you lived. The mask I wore was black with gold and platinum weaving designs through it, sitting over my nose and resting just below my eyes. It enhanced my sense of smell and taste, parts of the intricate design shifting and moving as I did so it didn't cut into my skin easily.
Eating wasn't a problem either, the high tech gear over our faces were basically equipped for almost anything. A small opening usually opens for the consumption of food, yet the nose was always covered.
The reason for the existence of the masks was for the pure purpose of keeping the people alive, the air was poisoned with a certain chemical that made brains decay, causing erratic behavior in whoever did not wear a mask.
"Sir Ackerman! Emperor Smith would like to see you!" A girl said beside me, I looked over leisurely and saw Petra. She had a small yet high ranking mask, her cherry blonde hair coming down over her shoulders and her eyes shining. In all honesty, she was beautiful. I knew in the back of my mind I would most likely take her as my wife one day, taking her out of the simple servant status.
"Erwin wants to see me? Bothersome..." I mumbled and stood, my cape swinging around me as I walked down the steps from my chair and out of the room. My other job as an official was to be a hunter, the job consisted of me tracking, killing or capturing the rebellion of our great empire. I was first class, a captian if you will, in the art of Rebel hunting. Each Rebel registered in the system was assigned a number to identify who they were, as they did not deserve to have a name since they had committed the greatest of treasons.
My heel made a small skidding sound as I turned on it, facing the large white doors that led into the Emperors chambers. My cane made a small black mark on the door as I hit the door with it, already bored and not in the mood.
A faint, "Come in" was heard and the doors opened. I let out a small sigh and walked into the room. As to be expected from anyone as high class as an Emperor, the chamber was extravagant. It had long large walls decorated with many different types of art, rich fabrics and amazing aromas came from the room as I walked forward, the floor practically shimmering with jewels and sunlight.
And there he was, the Emperor himself. In respect, I bowed, "Sir" I hummed.
"Ah Levi good, at ease"
I looked up, seeing Erwin sitting in a large pillow-like chair, his legs crossed as he looked at a screen in front of him carefully. There were maids beside him in white masks, handing him berries and other types of sweets.
"You know, if you keep eating sweets you are going to get fat" I said bluntly, shifting so I leaned on one leg. Erwin's throaty laugh was heard behind his golden mask, the frame being minimalistic but beautiful.
"Right you are Levi. Now I called you here for a reason" Erwin said and sat up, the maids backing way slightly, taking the trays of sweets out of the reach of the great Emperor.
"Alright, what could be so important that you had to call me here personally?" I said, eyebrow twitching in annoyance.
"There seems to be a massive fluctuation in rebels in the fourth district, they have been destroying houses and stealing. They are becoming a real problem" Erwin said seriously, ignoring my biting remark and looking at my eyes.
"Okay...but why not just send some hunters there" I said lazily, raising my hand and inspecting my perfectly clean nails.
"We have, and they never came back"
My eyes snapped up in shock, "Are you serious?" I inquired, my voice raised slightly. Normally regular class Rebels could be brought in by regular class hunters, obviously these weren't just your everyday Rebel.
Erwin nodded, "I need you to track and destroy these rebels, before they become a bigger problem for our Kingdom" Erwin commanded, sitting up more and swiping the screen in front of him away.
I stood straighter and fiddled with the sword embedded into my cane, tilting my head, "When will I be going out?"
"As soon as you are ready, even sooner. We don't have all the time in the world, the Rebels might infect our people and we can't loose our Kingdom to them"
I turned away, pulling out the sword sheathed by my cane and inspecting its cleanliness. "Yes, you're Majesty"
