Pete is back a little after five. Echo and I had spent the afternoon exploring my new house and moving the furniture around in my room, though it still looks basically the same. Patrick came down after an hour or so and we had a contest as to who could catch the most grapes in their mouth. I was unsurprisingly terrible at it, spending most of my time pelting the other two with my food. Then a truck showed up and Patrick had to go talk to the guy driving it. Echo and I ended up on the couch in the living room. He sits right in the middle so I put my legs up over his. He looks between me and his lap, squinting his eyes a little in mock annoyment.
"What?" I ask innocently. He scoops my legs up in his arms and pushes them off him. I scoff,"rude."
"Like you're one to talk." He rolls his eyes and I put my legs back over him. He goes to push them off again, but I keep them on with a ridiculous amount of determination for something so trivial.
He fights against my legs and I end up reaching forward to hold them on. He tries to just straight up knock me off the couch and I end up laying on my stomach over his legs. He sighs in defeat as I relax over him.
"Happy?"
"Yep," I say a little too cheery. He chuckles and leans forward on his elbows, pressing one into my back, the other on my thigh. "Stop!" I squeal at him. He laughs and wraps his arm around my legs to hold me still. I try to wriggle out of his hold and end up being held, half on the couch, by the legs. I push against the floor with my hands, blood rushes to my head and I'm out of breath from laughing. Echo is laughing just as hard above me.
"I'm back!" A familiar voice calls. Echo jumps in surprise and releases my legs. I fall to the ground completely and burst into yet another fit of giggles.
"What's going on?" Patrick laughs. I twist around and try to catch my breath as I look up at Pete and Patrick behind the couch.
"Hey," Echo says, wiping his eyes.
"Hi." I get out finally. I spin around and sit cross legged in front of the couch. "What's up?"
Pete shakes his head at us as we look up at him innocently. "We we're going to go out for dinner in a few. You can join us if you like, Echo."
"No thanks. I gotta get home before my mom sends out a search party or something." They chuckle.
"Guess you'd better go then. Need a ride?" Patrick offers.
"I'll just walk, thanks though." He gets up off the couch and I reach out my hands for him to help me up. When we're both standing he grins over at Pete. "Oh, and thanks Pete." Echo and Pete snicker as Patrick fakes a glare at him.
"What?" I ask, confused.
"Nothing," Patrick rushes out.
"I'll tell you later." Pete says to me. Patrick turns to him, a betrayed look on his face. He starts to argues playfully with him. I turn to Echo.
"I'll walk you out." I gesture forward and we go towards the door. I hear Pete and Patrick migrate further away, probably to the kitchen. I open the door for Echo. He pauses in front of me, on the porch now.
"I had fun today, Luce." He smiles. I nod and grin, agreeingly.
"Me too." He chuckles a little.
"I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Yeah," I say.
He starts to turn away. "Oh, and Lucy?"
"Hmm," he turns back to face me quickly. It happens so quickly I can barely register that it is. I kiss back after a second though. I don't get a chance to kiss him properly because he pulls away too quickly.
"See ya later." And with that he jogs down the walk to the street and dissappears around the corner. I lean against the door frame, suddenly unable to breathe correctly. I fixate my gaze on a random bush and try to decipher what happened.
I don't know how long I stand there but at one point I hear Pete calling me in, and I snap out of my daze, kind of.

"So, how do you like the new house?"
I look up from my plate at the question. We had ended up going to a little run-down Chinese place. I previously had been sitting there twirling my chopsticks, half listening to Pete and Patrick's conversation, half thinking about Echo.
"I like it." I get out. They nod.
"We were thinking of having a like house warming party. We could invite your friends and Ashley. And I think Brendon is passing through town tomorrow." Patrick looks over at Pete who nods to confirm his statement.
"Sounds like fun." I perk up a little. A party would be a lot of fun.
"Yeah? How's tomorrow night?" Patrick asks. I nod.
"Perfect." I make a mental note to tell James and Echo.
"Oh, and also, we were thinking that we could just run by the home tomorrow after school real quick to get your stuff. That way we can bring all your stuff over." Pete takes a sip of his drink and I get excited all over again. I'm really moving in with them.
"Ok," I nod. He rolls up his straw wrapper and tosses it at my face. Laughing when I flinch and glare at him.
"Wow, thanks Pete." He laughs harder at this and Patrick gives him a look.
"C'mon, can I tell her? Please?" Patrick sighs and waves him off. "Ok." He grins and launches into the story. I laugh my whole way through and we both lose it when he shows me a video. We start to get looks from the surrounding tables and Patrick tells us we have to leave before we get kicked out.
Needless to say, one of my better days.
