The next day at school almost every conversation I overhear is about Halloween, a topic that makes me want to crawl into a hole and block it out. It's not that I hate Halloween, but- yeah, I hate Halloween. Every experience I've ever had with that stupid fricken holiday turned out bad. It wasn't even until Sunday, I really don't understand why everyone is freaking out about the dumb all day. What's so great about dressing up and taking candy from strangers?
But of course, just my luck, it turns out Echo is the biggest fucking Halloween enthusiast. Great.
"So what do you want to do for Halloween?" He asked the moment I sat down at our newly established lunch spot. He pulls a purple bag of Takis out of his sweatshirt pocket as leans in to hear my answer.
"I dunno," I shrug. "I'm grounded, so I don't even know if I can do anything. What's the big deal anyway?" Echo gasps and presses a hand to his chest in complete horror.
"Did you just insult the greatest holiday ever invented." I roll my eyes. "Wait, when did you get grounded?"
"Long story. Now what do you want to do on Sunday?"
"Ok, um so are you going to dress up?" I shake mg head quickly. "What! Ok, ok fine." He heaves a sigh. "What if I just come over and we watch scary movies?" He gives me pleading puppy dog eyes as I sigh.
"I'll ask tonight."
"Alright, so what did my girl do to get grounded?"
I sigh and lean forward on the table. "I don't wanna talk about it," I say truthfully. I really am done not being upfront with Pete and Patrick. I really do appreciate them taking me in and the fact they even put up with my shit is a win for me.
"Oh, guess I'm dating a bad girl now." Echo laughs as I glare at him.
"Shut up."
"Ooh, salty."
"Oh my god..." I roll my eyes so far back I feel like they reach my brain.
Echo just burst into laughter across from me. "I have something to tell you, but it's just a possibility, so promise me you won't get your hopes up too much ok?"
"Great start." I comment, Echo rolls his eyes now. "Fine, I promise."
"Ok, so since you're moving to L.A. I asked my mom if I could move to my uncle's who lives down there." I bite my lip to keep from grinning too much at the news. The idea of me moving away from Echo had been plaguing my thoughts for the past few days since it was so close. I really am not looking forward to moving to a completely different state and school.
"I'm not excited," I lie as I give into my grin he frowns at me.
"Liar." I shake my head but continue to smile widely nonetheless.
"Fine, you can be excited for a minuter. But then, really I don't know if she'll let me, so please don't get too excited ok?"
"Ok." I say but I'm launcung myself at him to wrap him in a hug over the table.
"Calm down, you're really not making me look too cool in front of my friends," he complains. I just sit back in my seat and look at him.
"What friends?"
He gasos and presses a hand to his chest, feigning a wound. "Wow, bunny, shots fired. Right there in the self esteem."
"Oh god..." I hold head in my hand as he chuckles.
"What?" He says a little too innocently.
"That dies when we move to L.A. ok?"
"We'll see." He says nonchalantly.
"You're such a jerk," I say as he leans back and casually shoves a handful of chips in his mouth.
"So I guess you're into bad boys then, hmm?"
"I'm so done with you, you know that?" He just grins and pops another chip in his mouth.

When Pete picks me up from school he matches my smile that hasn't left my face since lunch. I had begun to feel a lot happier since I made up with Pete and Patrick. Having them be there for me really made all the difference when it came to how I was feeling lately.
"What's got you so happy?" Pete questions as I swing into the passenger seat.
"Nothin'," I say vaguley. He just chuckles and starts up the car.
"Well, if you don't have too much homework I've got a couple people who want to meet you down at the office. What'd you say, kiddo?"
"Sounds like fun. Is Patrick gonna be there?" Pete nods and turns up the radio.
"I'm glad you're coming down. I want to involve you more in this kind of stuff."
I nod,"Yeah, maybe if I'm around it enough I'll get famous like you guys." Pete scoffs.
"Please, no one could admit to to the brillience that is Fall Out Boy."
I laugh lightly and look up at him. "So, uh what we're you planning for Halloween?" I bite my lip out of nervousness.
"Um, I'm not sure yet, why?"
"Do you think it'd be ok if Echo came over to watch movies with me?" I give him pleading eyes that he scrunches his nose at.
"C'mon, that's not fair, you can't use your cuteness to make me feel guilty." I grin as he rolls his lower lip between his teeth before giving me an answer. "I'll talk it over with Patrick, but I don't think it'll be a problem." I smile widely.
"Thanks, Pete." I say as I throw my arms around him just as he pulls into a parking lot in front of a large office building."
"Yeah, yeah, ok kid. Let's go." I smile and follow Pete into the building.
The rest of my afternoon is spent meeting people and making inappropriate jokes with Pete that make Patrick cringe, but us double over with laughter. Overall, I'd say it wasn't all that bad of day. And when I get home we're all tired in a good way. Resigning to takeout and a movie on Netflix together before calling it a night and settling in.
WHAT IS THIS!? An update not seven days later? I know I'm just as shocked as you.
To be honest this is a sorry excuse for a part but I'm going to put the first part of the prequel this Friday. It's called "Nothing Like Me" and I will say now, trigger warning for abuse and there is minor talk of self-harm, but it isn't too bad.
I'd really appreciate it if you checked it out, but until then-
