Aria's POV
I thought it would be Ezra who would be my husband. I thought it would be Ezra who I would be greeted by every morning. I thought it would be Ezra who I would buy a house with. I thought it would be Ezra who I had kids with. But none of that is reality. It's just not the truth.
I sit in a chair, straightening my blazer. I would have never imagined wearing this on a normal day but this was something you had to dress nice for. It wasn't everyday you went to your best friends funeral. The one you hoped you'd spend the rest of your life with. The one that you had imagined to be your husband, instead of the one you actually saw staring back at you from a casket. He had a little scruffy beard now and he looked older. He always had that young light to him that I missed and would never get to see again. I peered over at his mother, who was crying her eyes out and scowling at me at the same time, like I had done this. But in a way, I had. He had showed up to my wedding and I should have saw that love in his eyes. Of course, I noticed, but did I do anything about it. No. I married Liam. The one who sat beside me stroking my thigh, which made me feel uneasy. When it was my turn to approach the casket, I fell to my knees. I ran my hands through my hair and cried. He was gone. That officially sunk in when I saw his body. As if somehow I still had hope that he was alive. Somehow he would wake up and I would jump into his arms where I'd stay forever. I tried to stand up on my shaky legs, holding onto the casket for balance. I opened my purse which was swung over my shoulder and pulled out some belongings. The ones I cherished the most. The ones I'd hold close to my heart forever but had to let go. They hurt too much. I set down a book next to his body. The poem book which consisted of my all time favorite, B26. I put a piece of the dress I had worn on our first official date and the museum pass that had come with it. I placed the camera beside him, the one he had got me all those years ago. I touched his hair. It was still soft and I tried to imagine what his blue eyes looked like. This was my fault and that was the worst part. I had caused him his pain. He started drinking because of me. He died while drunk driving because of me. He died because of me.
