Kats POV

My jaw dropped and I felt like yelling every insulting thing possible at my grandmother and... Max? Whatever! I just looked at my grandmother for a while.

"Well? Isn't he handsome? Since your 16 you have a few years to get to know him and then you two can get married. Isn't that exiting?!?" She asked excitedly.

I know that my grandmother is a very, very pushy and annoying woman but we are related and I love her. I hated to hurt her feelings but... I just wasn't going to marry someone when I loved someone else.

"Grandma... I can't... No." I said trying to process my thoughts.

"But your parents said you were lonely and that you wanted a boyfriend..." She said hesitantly as Max just stood there awkwardly.

I looked at my parents. I should've known that they wouldn't let me stay 'single' while Jamie was around. I mentally face palmed for not thinking of that sooner.

I looked back at my grandma and Max. "Sorry grandma but I just can't marry someone that I don't love." I said quietly.

She looked at me and then turned to my parents. "Alright, what happened that no ones telling me about?" She said sternly.

My parents eyes widened at how sudden she was and how she had known. I smirked at them. My parents looked like scared little kids that had been caught eating cookies before diner.

My grandma had a fierce look in her eye. That look that everyone said I inherited from her. It was a look that made you talk, it made you want to spill the beans. Let it all out and just share your darkest secrets with her.

So since she had that special look my parents blurted out the whole story and tried to make Jamie sound like a horrible person. They explained how he was a 'bad influence' and how he couldn't be trusted. I almost screamed in their faces for being so clueless.

Through my parents enormous story my grandma stayed quiet and listened. A characteristic that I had also inherited. When my parents finished she stared at them. She stared.

And stared.

And stared.

And stared even more.

Then she started laughing. My parents looked at her as if she was crazy. When she calmed down she said, "that's so idiotic..."

My parents looked at her in shock. I was the one who was looking at her as if she was crazy now. "What do you mean?" Asked my dad.

"Oh, Jeffrey, you are such an idiot. Keeping her away won't help. If it's a crush then she'll get bored of him if she can see him." She said and I saw her wisdom in her eyes as she spoke.

My dad looked uncertain. I was hoping that he would buy it and let me see Jamie again. Not that I would listen if he said no. I knew that it wasn't just a crush and that it wouldn't go away. But... My dad didn't have to know.

I was really hoping that he would forget that I told him that I loved him. It's dumb but true, besides my dad has a horrible memory. He doesn't even remember when I was born.

Luckily he seemed to have forgotten. He sighed and said, "Are you sure that it would be better?"

My grandma smiled and said, "Of course! If it isn't love then the whole thing will blow over in two months."

But it was love. I smiled at the thought. I caught sight of my grandmother looking at me out of the corner of my eye. But I was lost in thought about how amazing Jamie was.

I slowly came out of my daydream and saw my grandma staring at me with a glint of mischief and... Recognition? What was that about?

She had a twinkle in her eye that I hadn't seen in a while. A long while... Strange.

My grandma soon decided that she better get Max home since there was no dating, marriage, etc. he got up from his chair were he had been sitting awkwardly and started out the door. My mother told me to escort them out.

I walked my grandma to her car. She looked at my car and said, "Your cheap parents payed for that beautiful car?"

I blushed before answering "No. Jamie did. It was a present."

She smiled and that look returned to her eyes. Like the one that best friends use to communicate about a common secret. Weird.

"Don't I get a goodbye hug?" She said.

I laughed and hugged her. As we hugged she put her lips right next to my ear and whispered four words that left me a bit worried.

It sent a wave if confusion and immediately I put up my walls of defense up. She said, "I know your secret..."

With those four words she let go of me, got in the car and drove off. I stood there for a while. What secret? Was she supposed to know? How did she know? The questions bounced around my head for the rest of the day. I was still thinking about what she said when I went to bed.

That night I fell asleep thinking the same question that I had been repeating to myself for the whole day. 'What secret?'
