They were approximately a day away from the border of Azgeda territory. Everyone was on high alert. They didn't know whether the Ice nation army was going to stay in the Azgeda villages or attack them on their way.

Clarke had been purposely avoiding Lexa for the last couple of days. They hadn't really talked at all since they broke up. She was afraid that if she talked to her or was close to the brunette she wouldn't be able to continue to do what was best for the safety of her people. It had only been a couple of days but she was already missing Lexa deeply. The blonde was lost deep in thought and she nearly rode into Raven who was riding in front of her because everyone had stopped. Clarke looked up and saw the majority of Lexas army was in a really large clearing and what she suspected was the Azgeda army came into view on the opposite side of the clearing. A single rider began to ride forward slowly into the center of the clearing. The lady on the horse looked vile and ignorant and had a cocky smirk plastered on her face. Clarke suspected she was Nia. Lexa rode forward to meet her half way, commanding her guards to stay behind. Once both leaders were within a few meters of each other they both stopped, eyeing each other off. They were too far away for Clarke to be able to tell what they were saying to each other but even from the distance she could sense Lexa was tense. After a few minutes, Lexa rode back to her people. She immediately began talking to Indra, giving her instructions. After Lexa had finished, she turned to the rest of her people.

"Nia kom Azgeda and I have decided on a deal. A way to settle this war once and for all. A single champion from each side with fight to the death for their people. If Nias champion wins, she wishes to kill every one of you that opposes her, there is no doubt that many from both sides would die."

There was an up roar of disapproval from the crowd. From what Clarke could tell, every single one of Lexas warriors would rebel against Nia and it would just put them in a never ending cycle of war based upon the past. The crowd was silenced by Lexa raising her hand slightly.

"But if we win, we can Execute Nia and everyone that refuses to bow down to me. We can start a new era of peace."

The army cheered and chanted for their Heda. What Clarke saw next surprised her to no end. She saw all of Lexas best warriors go down on one knee, holding their swords in offering to their commander. She heard them all say, "Ai badan yu op en nou moun. Teik ai gonplei gon yu."

"Ai laik Heda. Non na throu daun gon ai."

Clarke turned to Lincoln, "What the hell is she saying?"

"She said that she will fight for her people."

Clarkes heart dropped. Lexa was going to fight to the death. She could die and Clarke could not do anything. There was no way that she could find a way out of it. The blonde saw a tall man who was not as big and buff looking compared to most of the other grounders. He was very skillfully swirling a spear atop of his horse. It was going to happen right here and right now, there was nothing she could do. Clarke then looked to Lexa who was handing Indra her coat and most of her armour. She was left in a leather chest plate type thing, a black tank top and jeans. She had her two swords on her back and a dagger strapped to her thigh but no horse.

"Why the fuck is she not using a horse?" Clarke panicked, turning to Lincoln and Octavia, "Horses are faster and stronger than people."

"Horses are stupider than people," Lincoln said calmly and simply.

"How are you this calm? If she loses... most of us are going to die."

"Not all of us are in love with her Clarke." Octavia replied cheekily and Lincoln whacked her playfully on the arm.

He then corrected her, "She is a skilled warrior. Arguably the best in the world, she will be fine."

Lexa started walking towards the other side and everyone fell silent. The Azgeda man on the horse started riding in a full sprint towards Lexa but she still didn't draw her sword. The clearing was at least two hundred meters long so he was still a fair way away but he was quickly getting closer. Once he was about one hundred and twenty-five meters away, Lexa took out her dagger, twirling it around in her hand. Clarke was scared for her, she was so worried she couldn't bring herself to move or speak. She just stood there starring at the Commander. Lexa looked back and stared straight into Clarkes eyes. The commander smiled slightly, it was almost unnoticeable. But not to Clarke. The brunette turned back to the man galloping at her with a spear. As he got closer Lexa didn't move, she didn't even draw her swords. When he was about fifty meters away, Lexa hurled her dagger at lightning spees with undoubted precision into the horse's eye. The horse collapsed with the man on top tumbling forward with momentum. It would be a miracle if he didn't break any bones. The horse lay dying in the dirt with the dagger embedded in its eye. Clarke let the breath she didn't know she was holding go in relief. She knew the battle was far from done yet but it was a promising start.

The Azgeda warrior got up quickly, and twirled his spear once again. Lexa finally drew her sword, setting herself up in a defensive stance.

To be continued...
