Part 15: -
Alexis’ POV
My heart was going ten times faster than it should’ve been. He was basically threatening to kill my daughter if I didn’t show. But what did he want with me? I’m no use. I’m torn and broken. Her life was on the balance because of me. Her own mother had put her in danger. At six weeks old, she was already facing being killed because of me. How stupid could I be? Seriously? I knew it wasn’t safe to have children, especially not where Braden was concerned. He’d do everything to get them from me. He’d do anything to torture me, even if it meant taking a six week old baby from its mother.
“Do you know who that man was?” The officer asked.
“Braden Matthews” I spat sourly.
“Your abusive ex?”
“The very one” I stated.
“Do you know where he’d take her?”
“IF I KNEW I’D BE THERE,” I shouted in his face.
“Lex” Conor warned.
That wasn’t the wisest decision I’ve made in my life but I was angry, annoyed and scared. I think it was natural to lash out. No one else except, Conor, Avery and Nathalia knew. Avery and Nathalia were out at the moment. I had to ask them to leave, just for just now, so the police didn’t think I was an irresponsible parent. Not that they would’ve, I don’t think. Although, I knew I had to phone my parents and Conor’s parents to let them know. I was just scared of their reaction.
The police officer scurried away after my little outburst. Conor was surprised by the look on his face but he also looked as if he didn’t want to say anything in case I snapped his head off too. Don’t blame him though. I was like a bomb, just ready to explode.
“We need to let everyone in Brighton know” Conor spoke carefully.
“I know” I sighed. “But, how do we tell them?” I questioned.
“Just come out and say it?” He said questionably.
“Thing is, what do we do if the first question is about her?”
“I really don’t have a clue, and I really wish we didn’t have to actually do this but we need to let them know” He sighed.
“Come on then. Get your phone and I’ll get mine, we can kill two birds with one stone” I spoke.
I grabbed my phone off the coffee table in the living room. It was on silent so I couldn’t really tell whether or not anyone had phoned or texted, not that I really cared at this moment in time, I just needed Lauryn back here safely.
As I sat back down next to Conor, I noticed he had his mum’s number open, ready to be phoned. It was just me. I was nervous for this, and I knew it was radiating off me like a heat rash but wouldn’t you? The one thing you cherish the most is gone and there’s nothing you can do to get her back but wait.
We phoned the numbers at the same time and put them on loudspeaker. My heart felt like it was about to give in at any given moment. It was really awkward having to tell them that their grandchild was kidnapped by my one and only abusive ex-boyfriend.
“Hello” Helen’s voice rung out through Conor’s phone.
“Hey mum” Conor spoke sullenly.
“What’s up?” She asked.
“Hello” My mum’s voice rung through.
“Hi” I spoke quietly.
“Lexi, what’s going on?” My mum asked.
