Soft guitar music played and there was the steady sound of conversation as Bepper sat facing Wisteria in the restaurant. She was glad that Wisteria had suggested some Bepsteria time, because she'd been wanting to spend some time with the hyper wolf for a long time. But a twinge of suspicion pricked at her, did this sudden invitation have to do with Skorm? Wisteria grinned,
"So," She broke the silence. "How was your day?"
Bepper laughed, "C'mon Wisteria, its not like I just met you." she rolled her eyes at Wisteria's formality, why was her friend so nervous?
"Yeah my day was okay, to answer your question." She pushed the thought of Skorm out of her mind, trying to forget him.
"Did a few things with Aparri, he won't leave me now since I disappeared." She sighed. Wisteria laughed,
"Typical Aparri," then a cloud passed over her face and she frowned, worry glistening in her eyes,
"When you, disappeared; " She paused, "What did Alistairz do?"
Bepper froze, so this was about Skorm! She felt anger rise in the pit of her belly. Wisteria was trying to get them back together! This wasn't just a visit! But she took a deep breath, maybe she was just worried,
"Well," She felt the words tumble out, "He told me Skorm didn't love me, and that I would never be good enough for him."
She paused, tears pricking at her eyes, "Then I saw Skorm, and he was with Typical..." She bit her lip, turning away. Why was she telling this? Wisteria couldn't do anything to help her. Besides, Skorm had already done enough; there was no way they could be a thing again. She gulped, but there was no way she could keep her feelings away. Would she always look at Skorm with that same desire and pain, knowing he had someone else?
"Wow Bepper, I'm sorry." Bepper felt Wisteria's paw on hers. Bepper took a shuddering breath and shrugged,
"Its not your fault, its not your fault if Skorm chooses someone else."
"But Bepper, he didn't choose Typical over you," Wisteria's voice bit into her thoughts, and Bepper whipped her head up, glaring;
"Who do you think he spends all his time with? Who do you think he takes walks with that I don't know?" She felt the anger flare up in her chest again, burning with the pain of abandonment.
"Um, ladies; sorry to interrupt; may I help you?" Bepper felt color rise to her cheeks in embarrassment. The waiter stood at the table, inquiringly. Wisteria was the first to speak,
"Oh uh, yes, could I get a salad and a cocktail?"
The waiter nodded. Bepper ordered her food then turned to Wisteria, sighing,
"I'm sorry Wisteria, its just that I thought he loved me.."
"He does," her friend interrupted, "He loves you more than any animal in Jamaa, in the world even."
Bepper looked up sadly, "And how are you supposed to know?"
Wisteria smiled and gave her a lick on the ear, "Skorm would never want anyone else, and who is Alistairz to say he doesn't love you?"
Bepper growled at the name, remembering the conversation at Wisteria's house.
She'd been so certain she could deal with the troublemaker, and yet she hadn't. How could she have let him ruin her life?It wasn't Skorm's fault, or hers, it was Alistairz's! She looked up, understandingly into her friend's amber eyes,
"He does love me," She remembered the look in his eyes when he had kissed her at Coral Canyons, she remembered the warmth in his gaze when he had curled up next to her at the party. She remembered the walks, his simple words of love; and understood. She stood up suddenly,
