CHAPTER 34 - KASSANDRA

KASSANDRA

"I thought you'll keep your eye on Arkin, so why do you let him go with Karlos alone?" Dad asked when he saw me at the porched.

"He doesn't need me there, Dad and besides, let's give Arkin a break. I've been sticking around with him since he came back here. I don't want him to feel that he's our prisoner" I explained.

"He deserves to be. He's too stubborn"

"Dad..." lumapit ako sa kanya at kumapit sa braso niya. "He did learn his lessons, okay?" I said to him sweetly.

"He still didn't want to take over the company, Kassandra. He still wanted to do things his way. Anong natutunan don? He never learned"

"Let's just understand that our thing is not his thing. Arkin is different, Dad. He wants to do something differently from us"

"He is a Montemayor at dapat yung mga bagay na para sa mga Montemayor ang pinaglalaanan niya ng oras! "

"He is unique, isn't he? We tried everything to push him to take over the business, Dad but he just packed his things and left us. I don't want Arkin to leave us again and live like a beggar in Manila"

"That was his choice, Kassandra"

"Dad, can I ask you something? I know we talked about it already but..."

"What? Ipagtatanggol mo na naman yang kapatid mo? You always confide with him, aren't you?"

"Dad...let him do what he wants"

"Do what?"

"Let's support him on things he begged for us before. Like his project at Pahik at sa iba pang mga remote areas dito sa Hilario"

"You are telling me to let him waste his time, Kassandra?"

"Dad naman e. Please?"

He rolled his eyes at me but I know what his answer will be. I know. No one in this house can say no to me kaya nga naiinis ako sa katigasan ng ulo ni Arkin these past few weeks.

"How can I say no to you?" He said.

I leaned my head on his shoulder. "I will take over the company even if I don't want to, Dad. I will manage BigM kung yun yung inaalala mo"

"How about your atelier? You'll closed it?"

"If I need to. I will" I looked up to meet Dad's eyes

"For your brother?" He asked.

Tumango ako at hinalikan niya ako sa noo at nagpaalam ng papanhik na sa kwarto nila ni Mommy.

Yun lang naman ang gusto ng Dad.  Yung lahat ng negosyo niya ay kaming mga anak niya ang mamahala especially sila Kuya Kristoffer, Arkin and Karlos. It is a tradition in our family that a son should take over the company. Kuya Kristoffer take over one of Dad's business na at dapat si Arkin na ang susunod pero ayaw niya.

Arkin and I both took up our elementary level in Spain while the rest of our family lives here in the Philippines. When I graduated Grade 12, Mom and Dad decided to transferred us to Hilario. Arkin was grade 10 that time and he doesn't want it.  Kaya siguro sobrang tigas ng ulo niya nung mga unang buwan namin dito sa Pilipinas.
Since we came here,  Arkin has been the headache of my parents. He always got into trouble kahit nung nasa Spain pa kaming dalawa at mas lalo siyang lumala nung lumipat kami dito sa Pinas, but everything changes when he met his bestfriend Wendel who used to live in Pahik. Una pa lang, napapansin ko ng mas gusto niyang makipaghalubilo sa mga mahihirap like our workers at isa na don si Andoy.

Dad doesn't like Arkin hanging out with Wendel. For one reason, he is poor. He doesn't wanted anyone of us to be associated with those people.
Dad always telling Arkin to stop going to Pahik. "They will abuse you" he said. "Poor people know only one thing -to ask! Stop hanging out with that guy, Arkin!!"
