A full moment passed before Lorelie could respond to her daughter.

"Pregnant? As in knocked up, with child, up the pole, the full Juno!" Lorelie whispered

"Yeah." Rory turned her face away, glancing over the wedding preparations and sighed. "I don't know how this happened."

"Clearly you've forgotten our little chat when you were 13." Lorelie huffed. "You see, if you have sex... oh my god! It's not the Wookiee's is it!"

"Mom, stop. No it's not. You know me better than that."

"No, I don't think I do. I can't believe you were so cavalier about protecting yourself, Rory! We have talked and talked about this! I thought you would be the last person that this would happen to! Have you learned nothing from me, my example? Is it Paul?"

"No. Paul and I barely ever saw each other. We hadn't slept together in over a year. We just never bothered to break up." Rory sighed. "It was never a real relationship. We only saw each other a few times since I left Brooklyn. He's a nice guy but there was nothing there. He was mostly just a friend."

"Then who? What has been going on in your life? Why don't I know that you have been dating someone?" Lorelie was hurt and puzzled.

"Because I knew that you wouldn't approve. It was stupid but..." Rory began to get upset.

"Oh my god, is he married?" Lorelie whispered.

"Not married, no." Rory finally turned back and looked at her mother. "But not available either."

"Rory, I just don't understand you sometimes. I may have made a lot of mistakes in my life, but I have never crossed that line!"

"Oh? And when you and dad got together while he was still seeing Sherry?" Rory retorted.

"Totally different. Chris and Sherry had already broken up. And besides, you saw how horribly that turned out. You're supposed to be smarter than this." Lorelie snapped angrily.

"Yeah. I am. But that doesn't change anything. Here I am. Pregnant." Rory conceded. "And I have no idea what to do."

"There are some decisions that you have to make alone, kid. I'm not happy about the irresponsibility here - you're lucky you ended up pregnant and not sick. But you have to make the decision as to what you do next." Lorelie relented. "I just didn't want this for you. But if you decide to have the baby, I'm here for you."

Tears started to slide down Rory's face. "Thanks Mom" she choked out. "I don't know what I'm going to do. But I will figure it out. And soon."

"God, kid. Hell of a bombshell."

"Yeah."

"Crying Game" Lorelie added.

"Shawshank" Rory retorted.

"Keyser Söze" Lorelie chipped in.

"Hey! That's not the movie. It's the character." Rory objected.

"Geez, so I'm a little off today! Give me a break here! I haven't slept, just got married, have to get married again in three hours and you laid this on me. And don't for a minute think that I haven't noticed that you have not yet told me who the father is by the way." Lorelie stood up and held out her hand. "Let's go find out if they have decaf coffee in this town."

"Decaf?"

"Yep. Until you figure things out, it's unleaded for you."

"Well that just sucks!"
