Rory lead Logan away from the building and headed for around the corner. Logan strode along with her, saying nothing. Rory stopped at a cafe and started to turn to enter, but Logan shook his head. Rory held his intense gaze and after a moment, a brief flash registered on her face before she nodded back.
Logan lead Rory to the corner and they descended underground.
"Do you even know how to get ..."
"It's the subway, Ace. It doesn't exactly change." Logan replied.
He stopped to purchase passes for them both and then lead her to the platform to wait for the next train. Rory stood quietly, looking down at his hand grasping hers. She wondered if he even realized how strongly he was gripping her hand. His knuckles were white, and she could feel his pulse hammering along with her fingertips. She was mesmerized by the rhythm.
They stood closely together, in silence until the train arrived. Logan gave a squeeze to her hand and lead them aboard. He lead Rory to a pair of vacant seats and waited for her to sit before taking his seat as well.
Rory alternated between watching Logan's face through her peripheral vision and people watching. After a few moments, Logan nudged her with his elbow and discreetly nodded towards a middle aged woman a few seats away, wearing an unusually formal dress for the middle of the afternoon on the subway. Rory took in a good look and noticed the shabby and dated clutch purse she was holding and her well worn wedding rings. She leaned towards Logan and muttered "Husband's office Christmas party."
"Nope. Ladies auxiliary luncheon." Logan replied.
Rory scrunched her nose and shook her head. She opened her mouth to discuss her reasoning when the train slowed and the doors opened.
"59th and Lexington" Logan gestured towards the exit and they quickly left the train.
Rory followed Logan up the stairs and out into the cold again where they took a short walk until they arrived at their destination.
A doorman opened one of the front entrance doors and Logan lead Rory to the desk and placed his credit card down in front of the clerk. "One night, please." Rory wandered over to the lobby and looked around. Maintenance staff milled about, hanging holiday decorations in the lobby area.
Logan came to join her, watching a pair of men wrangle an enormous wreath. "You would think that they would do that late at night." Logan murmured.
"They do the major decorating at night. But the entire hotel wouldn't be decorated for a week or more if they only did that. The minor stuff has to happen during the day or they would still be at it up to the epiphany." Rory replied.
Logan nodded his understanding and offered his hand. Rory placed her hand in his and followed him to the elevator. "Did you get the Hemingway suite again?"
"No. Not a themed suite this time." Logan smiled.
"But how else am I to feel like Eloise?" Rory joked.
Logan's serious face finally broke and he gave her his trademark smirk. "Eloise is a nice name."
"So is Daisy." Rory replied.
Logan laughed and nodded, exiting the elevator and leading Rory to their room.
"So, here we are. Finally." Logan said, closing the door behind them.
Rory moved to the center of the room and turned.
"Yes. Alone at last." She replied.
"Alone, together." Logan corrected as he strode across the room to gather Rory in a passionate kiss.
