Chapter 1: He Knows My Name

I could hardly breath, every time I try to inhale my chest burns like hell.

I tried opening my eyes, but no use, they still remain shut.

I tried to shout, but there was no voice coming out of me.

I tried to cry, but there were no tears at all.

The whole place was in a havoc. My doctor and my nurse were trying to revive me, but it was still the same. The  monitor still showed a constant vertical line. I could feel a little panic, but something kept me holding. There was that unfamiliar voice that kept saying, "Don't go... Please don't go now... wait a little longer, just a little more longer..." I could feel warm hands holding mine.

I wanted to hold on a little while longer, but I felt that life was slipping away from me...

My heart was making its last beat and then.

 Boogsh-Toogsh-Bam!

At may gana pa talaga akong mag-exhibition sa hagdan ngayong late na late na ako. First day na first day pa naman. Wow! What a way to start my last school year.

“Magdahan-dahan ka ngang bata ka!” Sabi ni Yaya Ysa sabay bigay sa akin ng slice bread na may strawberry jam on top, yum! My favorite. Kaya mahal ko ‘to, eh, alam na alam niya kasi kung ano’ng gusto ko. At dahil late na nga ako, hindi ko muna kinain at kinagat ko na lang ang isang corner, letting it dangle out of my mouth as I slip into my black school shoes.

Tumakbo na ako papuntang garage namin. I had no choice kundi ang magbike papuntang school, iniwanan kasi ako ng magaling kong kapatid. Bait niya no, hindi man lang ako ginising. Tsk! Ba’t pa kasi kailangang maagang pumunta ng paaralan ‘pag first day, eh boring orientations lang naman meron ngayon? Tsk!

Kasalanan talaga ‘to ng bangungot kong ‘yun, eh. Puyatin ba naman ako. Ayan tuloy, hindi ako nakagising ng maaga.

Nakarating ako sa school, 8:15 am, saktong-sakto lang para sa second bell.  After greeting the guards, I parked my bike beside a blue convertible. Tiningnan ko ang plate number and knew that I parked at the right place.

Wala ng students sa hallway, faculty na lang na papunta sa assigned rooms nila. I smiled and greeted the teachers na nakakasalubong ko habang tumatakbo papuntang classroom. Iba sa kanila would greet me back with a smile or good morning, pero mostly inaasar lang ako.
