After laying in a boring, uncomfortable hospital bed and being forced to watch a stupid soap opera because I couldn't find the remote, Harry finally showed up. He wore simple, dark jeans and a black & white striped shirt. I noticed the worry filled in his eyes and tried to soothe him by smiling.
"What happened?" He asked immediately sitting down on the chair by my bed.
"I don't remember exactly what happened. All I know is I crashed into a railing because Haley told me that. And when I woke up she was there with the ambulance."
"So you have memory loss?" He asked sounding even more afraid.
"No. I just don't remember the crash."
He sighed, then turned his attention to the bandage on my head.
"Stitches," I informed him before he could ask. He pouted with sympathy.
"I'm sorry." He says.
"You didn't crash into me." I said, then raised an eyebrow. "Or did you," I accused jokingly.
"No. Certainly not."
The door suddenly burst open and Niall walked in. I could tell Harry was shocked, but not more surprised than I was.
"What's he doing here?" Was the first thing Niall said. I wasn't sure what to say so, like an idiot, I didn't say anything.
"I'll give you two a moment. Grace, I'll be in the hallway," Harry politely said rising from his seat. He made his way towards the door but stopped next to Niall. "I'll come in here if I need to," he warned Niall, then walked out.
"He's got some nerve," Niall snorted. "Warning me like that. I'm your boyfriend, not him. I should be warning him."
"We did break up yesterday, remember?" I say. He rolls his eyes.
"Look Grace. You know I love you, right?"
"In a twisted way, yes."
"I know I haven't been the best today, with the crash and all and I'm sorry. I want another chance."
I sighed.
"Even if I wanted to give you another chance I couldn't. The fact that our parents are getting married soon seems to have slipped your mind. My mom even has her dress."
"Fuck that," he nearly shouted, but not in anger. "If you love me like I love you we could crash that wedding. Then we could be together."
"It wouldn't be just crashing the wedding. It'd be crashing my mother's happiness. I can't do that." I explain.
"What if I crashed it. Then you wouldn't hurt her."
I laughed at that. It was somewhat touching to me that he was willing to do this to be with me, but my thoughts drifted back to what I overheard earlier in school. It had been such a long, exhausting day that I hadn't realized that the whole Liam eavesdropping incident was today. It felt like it happened days ago. I was unsure of whether I should ask him about that now or later.
"I don't know Niall. Why don't we go do something when I'm feeling better." His eyes brightened.
"Really?"
"Sure."
He smiled then.
"I'm gonna remember that you said that." He says.
"Fine. But I have Harry out there waiting so I'll see you later." He frowned at the mention of Harry.
"I can't believe I'm about to leave for him." He said in disgust. "I don't like him."
"Don't worry he doesn't like you either."
He stuck out his tongue and placed a hand on the doorknob. "I'll check in on you tomorrow."
"Alright. Bye Niall."
"Bye Grace. Feel better."
He opened the door and I noticed the ridiculous, dirty looks him and Harry exchanged as Niall walked out and Harry walked in.
He made his way back over to the chair and sat down. He looked out the window.
"I don't like him."
I chuckled.
"He doesn't like you very much either."
He took my hand and gave it a small squeeze. Then he took it and cupped it in his two hands, using one of his thumbs to draw circles on it.
"How have you two been lately?" He asked after a moment.
"We've been.....we broke up yesterday."
"Really? Then why was he here."
"He came back to apologize. He wants to get back together."
"Came back? He was here earlier?"
"Yeah. And he was acting like a jerk."
"Oh. Well what'd you tell him?"
"Well you know our situation with the wedding and all. I didn't give him a direct answer. I just told him that when I'm feeling better we can go out and do something."
"But why? If the wedding is still happening?"
I didn't realize Harry asked so many questions. I didn't mind answering them the but still. Maybe he was just particularly interested in my abnormal relationship.
"Because I want answers out of him. I overheard him talking about me today and everything he said just sounded suspicious. They were talking about how Niall lied to me but didn't lie. Something about not being honest with his feelings. And it was in the past.....and Liam wants to be with me."
I was having a hard time trying to remember not because of my head, but because I was so tired.
"Sounds like you've got a lot going on."
"I do."
He tightened his grip on my hand.
"You do realize that you don't have to put up with this. You don't even have to be with him. Don't stress yourself out Grace. He's not even worth it." He told me.
I suddenly felt uncomfortable.
"Thanks. But I'm gonna get some sleep. It's been a long day."
He rose immediately and realized that he probably offended me.
"Ok um...I'm sorry. I mean....I didn't mean anything. Um....I'll check up on you tomorrow."
"Ok. Thanks." I smiled at him and he quickly left out of embarrassment.
He hadn't really offended me, but I didn't think it was his place to tell me that Niall wasn't worth stressing over. Maybe he wasn't, but he didn't have the right to tell me.
I planned on calling my mom before I drifted off to sleep, but I was too tired to reach for my phone, so I fell asleep.
