“Okay, give me a minute,” Cam said to Kim before hanging up the phone. She quickly pulled her hair up in a messy ponytail. She was dressed in black cloth shorts with white stripes down the sides, and a white t-shirt.
She spent most of yesterday with Kim and Chris practicing. She was ready; well at least that’s what she kept saying to herself. All she had to do was show Josh what she could do and he’d make her the lead.
She had confidence.
That’s all she needed.
And if she didn’t get the spot, well, there’d be others.
“Well, another successful concert last night for the band Sons of Adam last night,” the chick said with excitement. Cam turned around and faced the TV. It was showing recaps of last night at a concert and she saw Nat moving around quickly as he sang. She grabbed her remote when he faced a camera and started bopping at it back and forth; playing the band hit, ‘Magic to Her Name’. She paused it and she gripped the remote, wanting to break it.
‘I’ll be back for you…’
Those four words replayed in her mind. It’s what he said to her before he boarded the plane which was going to Los Angeles.
She turned her attention away from the TV, to her bed, and quickly regretted like always when she saw Nat on TV. She took a deep breath and waited for the memories and words to leave her head. She was so crazy and naïve for him, she believed she was in love with him. She was a stupid fourteen year old that didn’t know anything and gave Nat everything.
Literally.
The night before he left, she snuck him over that night. She knew she wasn’t going to see him for a few months and she wanted to give him something to remember. It was a weekend night and her parents were out with friends and her little brother was at a friend's house. He didn’t want to do it, but she convinced him. It was one of the most painful nights she’d ever had but she thought she was ready, and how mistaken she was. She had thought that she and Nat were going to be together forever.
She should have known forever wasn't real.
She hadn’t been able to look at herself the same after, but she was slowly getting over it. It happened, and she couldn’t take it back. You make mistakes in your life and even though it was her greatest, she’d learnt from it.
Nat may have been her first, but she knew he wouldn’t be her last.
One way she learned to get over it was to re-do her room. Fresh painted walls, new furniture, and a new bed. But the memories were still there.
She sighed heavily to herself and heard a beep outside. She turned her TV off and quickly ran downstairs to go live her life and forget about Nat Bynes.
After showing Josh some jazz moves she and Chris did last night she took in his approving look and her confidence grew. He got up from the chair and put his hand under his chin.
“Give me a few days to think,” he finally said. “You were good, Cameron, but Amber was also good. I also have to think of the male lead, so I should get back to you in about two days.”
She nodded, “Okay." She thanked him and left. She had a good feeling, it was as if she already knew she’d get it. She walked out of the studio to find Kim and Chris making out against his car. Her nose scrunched up as she walked down the stairs. “Hey stop it you two.” she said and Kim jumped back, blushing really hard. She smirked, “People don’t need to see you two sticking your tongues down each other’s throats.”
