New Moon Chapter 4 (Leaving Her)

I knew that Riley had swimming tonight. It was an after school activity that she loves, and I know that she will attend tonight.

Today had been rough. Edward convinced all of us that we weren't safe to be around Riley and Bella. I knew that he was right. What kind of life would they have if they stayed around us? Probably no kind of life, no human should be with a vampire.

We didn't go to school that day. We all spent the day packing up. I knew that it had to be Edward and I being the ones to tell Bella and Riley. So, we agreed to to tell them when they got home from school. I went with Edward, but when Bella got out of the truck, Riley wasn't with them, so I went to school, and saw her with the team. I saw her smile, and I knew that I was going to miss her. But then I remembered what I could do, how much pain I could put her through, and I went back home.

That evening, I was driving, going to catch up with Riley, tell her that I'm leaving. I see her on the side of the road, walking. I can't help but think about how dangerous it is, her walking by herself. Then I pull over.

"Riley!" I called out.

"Hey! How are you?" She asks me, I can feel how worried she is about me. I don't deserve any of it though. "I wanted to make sure that you're okay, and how are you feeli-"

"We need to talk." I interrupted her, I don't want her to worry about me. "Edwad already talked to Bella and now you need to know."

"Know what?" I could feel her concern.

'We're leaving Riley."

"Okay, so, Bella would only need to make up a story. Charlie wouldn't care about me."

"NO." I say harsley. "You and Bella aren't coming, we can't have you come with us."

"Why?" All I could feel now was sadness. "Edward loves Bella. And you love me, right?" Of course I love you. I thought. But I knew that I couldn't say that. She'll have to move on from me. Humans are capable of doing that.

"No. Neither of us loved love. We never loved you. Rose didn't, Alice didn't, Emmet, nor Esme and Carlisle." The tears in her eyes broke my heart. But then again, I was breaking her's.

"So why did you ever come near us?"

"We get board. We've always ended up ignoring human life, yourself and your sister came into our lives and made it exciting. Besides, Carlisle has to move because of his job. People are getting suspicious." I say the last bit to remind myself why we need to keep going.

"Then why are you even bothering telling us? We would probably be more heartbroken if you didn't tell us."

"No, you wouldn't. You wouldn't be more heartbroken because we wouldn't have told you that we don't love you."

"Get the hell away from me." The tears were pouring out of her eyes. Her body was going numb from sadness.

"Before I go, make sure that you don't harm yourself. Okay?" I want her to promise me that she'll live her life.

"Yeah, whatever, just so you know. I hope that you live a nice life, knowing that you actually will have someone that loves you. Because I thought that your family did actually love me. I guess I was wrong. Thanks for making my life start it's path to hell." Then she ran into the forest. I knew that she would go to her treehouse. I'm not worried about her there. She'll be fine I say to myself. But that doesn't make it any easier to drive away.
