23-love life while you have it

After that day everyone stopped talking to me. I wore my ring every day after that and ever since I gave Carter's ring back he wore his too.

But I haven't talked to him since that day. My daily routine is; get up, shower, get dressed, go to school, go home, eat a snack, go to baseball, get home, sleep. Every day.

This went in for 2 weeks. Prom was in 1. I decided to take charge by now. I drove to Carter's house one day after school to take Jake to hang out with Carter's brother, Bobby.

"Bye kid!" I yell out of the passengers window at Jacob when Carter runs outside before I drive away. He opens the car door and hops in with me. "What do you want?" I ask with my eyes closed as I feel the tears coming.

"Look at me," he says calmly. I don't do anything.

"Dammit Embry look at me," he says with more force and I do. My eyes are glazed over with tears by this time. "What have I done to you?" He asks before pulling me in for a short kiss.

"Can you get out of my car now? I have to go to the mall for chocolate," I ask.

He chuckles before saying, "lead the way my beauty."

"Why are you talking to me? You are so mad at me for gating accepted into NYU," I ask after starting down the road.

"I'm happy for you, but I just didn't realize how far away we'd be," he says before grabbing my hand.

We arrive at the mall and before I can make my way towards the Harry Potter themed Candy store Carter pulls me into a dress shop. "What are we doing here?" I ask him.

"We are getting your prom dress!" He says excitedly.

"Fine."

I grab a short, black no sleeve dress and a long one sleeve blue-green dress and change.

"How does it look?" I ask Carter who is sitting mouth open on a couch.

"Hold crap those calves tho!" He exclaims practically drooling.

"I think I'm going to go try on the long one now," I say with a small giggle.

When I walk back out Carter makes a loud whistle before saying, "this is the one!"

I change and then we go towards the checkout and we pay 50/50.

I get Jacob from Carter's house to pack a bag to spend the night over there.

When I get back home I see 3 notes on the counter;

Annoying pile of crap (aka Embry) ;-),
I'm goin out with some of the guys. Call me when your troubled. Love you sis!

I have to work tonight and I'll be home tomorrow or so. I love you so much honey!

I ignore the last note before going to sleep.

I'm in darkness. I see...light!

Oh no.

"Don't worry sweetheart everything's going to be okay," I hear dad say. I miss him sober. I miss the way we'd have our father daughter weekends.

Then the pain and blood comes from my wrists. I scream and it's gone.

I wake up sweating and screaming. Then I hear footsteps from my hall. I hear 2 girls whispering. I already know who it is. Grabbing my phone and Carter's hoodie I open my window and climb to the ground from the second story.

I dial Kameron's number and he picks up almost immediately. "What's going on?" He asks. I can hear his eyebrows furrowing.

"Where are you? Kameron hurry they're gonna hurt me!" I sob into the phone, still running.

"I'm at Casin's house hurry!" He says before hanging up. That's a block from here. Great.

I arrive and run inside up to Casin's room where I suspect they'll be. I walk in to see Casin writing something in a notebook and Kameron strumming something on a guitar. "Kameron!" I yell and run into his arms after he puts the guitar down. "They followed me here! Help! Please just hide me they're gonna stab me again!" I yell looking down at my bare leg. I'm wearing spandex, a long sleeve shirt, Carter's hoodie and slip on vans. Then we hear the footsteps and Casin apparently doesn't want to get hurt either so he locks his door and helps Kameron hide me under the desk.

"Casin? C'mon! Let us in!" I hear Faith and so he does looking relieved.

"Embry thought someone was coming to hurt or kill her," Casin says before noticing the knife and gun Mari and Faith have in their hands.

"Hey Kameron," Mari says dragging out his name and running a hand down his bare chest after I come out from my hiding spot. He quickly takes her hands off of him and pushes her away before him and Casin make a wall in front of me. I quickly text the baseball team on the group chat and within 5 minutes of utter silence everyone shows up.

"Wanna leave her alone?" I hear Jonathan say behind Faith.

"I've done enough damage to her! Might as well finish her off!" Faith exclaims.

Mari and Faith eventually leave after throwing hurtful comments towards me.

"You are stayin with me tonight," I hear Kameron demand while pointing a finger at me.

"We ALL are," David says with a comforting smile.

"Half of us get downstairs and half upstairs," Parker says.

"I'll stay with Embry in the guest room. We'll need some back up in there too, so Jimmy, Parker, and Smit stay in there on the couches," Carter says and everyone heads to bed.

"I could've lost you," Carter mumble sun my ear after I snuggle up into his side.

"But you didn't and that's all that matters," I say before ruffling his hair and falling asleep to his lips on my forehead.
