14- you're a chicken butt!

I show up at school the next day and go to the office door to see the Varsity baseball and softball papers.

Parker and Peyton made team captains and they're dating!

I grab a baseball schedule and find I have practice after school today. Crap.

I go to my locker where Cauy is waiting. "I didn't make it did I?"

"No don't worry," I say smiling at him.

"Well I should based on the fact that Carter did!" And with that he storms away.

Okayyy then...

I go to biology and take my seat. Cauy isn't here. Well isn't that fantastic he probably is ditching! Idiot.

I take my quiz and listen to how we are dissecting a rat tomorrow and I may throw up.

I get a text in passing time Ina  group chat;

Mari: hey

Faith: what's up?

Mari: the sky

Faith: lol

Mari: Embry you're a chicken butt😂

Me: huh?

Faith: you're a chicken butt!

Okay then... I bet it's a joke. Me: well gee thanks

Faith: I wonder why they let a girl on the baseball team when there is a softball team?

Mari: SAMEE!

I don't respond, instead I turn my phone off.

I sit through algebra 1 and ace my test... Wow.

I go to reading and take my spot by Carter. I feel exhausted.

"You okay?" He asks. I nod.

"Ok class we are going to the library to get some books for yalls book report," Mrs. H says and everyone gets up. Mari and Faith pull their phones out and  so do I once I'm outside.

I turn my phone on and see what they have to say.

Faith: Embry why don't you just be normal and play softball?

Mari: ya!

Me: because I'm brave enough to play dirty!

Carter looks over my shoulder as I grunt, "lemme see," he says with concern and he reads as I hand him the phone. "Dang, see why else they do," he hands me my phone back.

Once we get to the library I pick out my 4 books and ask to have the rest of the class as free period. I walk back to the school and put my books in my locker before walking back into the reading classroom. I'm alone. I open the group chat.

Faith: ya with my BF!

Mari: that's so wrong! Don't forget about my BF too!

She has been dating Casin for 4 days.🙄

Me: at least I don't steal people's BFs! You know what I'm done leave me alone!

Before I can leave the group Mari and Faith walk in, "Well look what we have here! A lonely boy crazed puppy!" Faith is horrible.

"I'll be leaving then," I say but Mari pushes me back down. "HEY!" I scream at her.

"What's the matter? Cauy not here to protect you?" Faith says laughing. "Or better yet... CARTER! Wait till Cauy gets a loaf of this!" Right then she throws the biggest punch and I'm out of my seat. I look at her and smile before I put her in a half-Nelson and punch her nose until I hear a crack sound. Score!

Mari pins me to the ground and punched me silly. Then the bell rings and Carter runs in. They had locked the door and it automatically unlocks when the bells ring. He picks me up and takes me to the girls bathroom where he fixes me.

"You have a busted lip, a black eye that will get worse, a cracked cheekbone, and enough scratches to last a year," Carter explains.

"I'm going home, it's lunch I need to get my baseball stuff I'll be back in 15," I say before jumping off h counter and falling into Carter's arms due to lack of balance. He smiles.

Carter gives me a ride to my house an I get my clothes. I go through the rest of the school day. Then after I change I walk to the baseball field and you'd never guess who's there waiting for me.
