Keir's mother, Margaret arrived on Thursday the following week. We were both happy to see her.

It was Saturday and Margaret and I were going wedding dress shopping. After arguing with Keir, who insisted on joining us, Margaret finally talked him into staying home.

I drove us to a cute little bridal shop on the other end of town, where I had my eyes on a stunning ball gown wedding dress.

We walked into the shop and I requested to try on the dress I had fell in love with. Margaret waited while I tried it on.

I walked out of the room and stepped in front of the mirror. I liked it, but it didn't feel like it was my dress.

"That looks so beautiful on you, dear." Margaret smiled. "You look just like a princess." I smiled at her words. Princess is what Keir called me before we started dating.

"I like it. But I don't feel like it's my wedding dress."

"Try more on then." She laughed. "We have all day."

I stepped away from the mirror and returned to the changing room. I informed the sales woman, that was helping me, that I would like to try more. She smiled and quickly walked away to find some.

I tried on close to twenty dresses, from ball gowns to mermaid style.

"This is the last one." I frowned as I stepped into it.

"When the wedding?" The sales woman asked as she tied the back.

"April." I mumbled.

"Last minute wedding?" She smiled.

"You could say that."

"I really hope you find the dress of your dreams. Step out and let your future mother in law see you." She opened the door to the dressing room and let me step out.

I walked to the mirror, where Margaret sat, patiently waiting. When she spotted me she smiled. I could see her tearing up.

I stood with my back to the mirror and looked at her. Out of the twenty dresses I tried on, she never started to cry.

"You okay?" I asked her. She nodded her head yes and waved me to turn around. I spun around to look in the mirror and gasped at what I saw.

The dress was magnificent. It was obviously white, with a sweetheart neckline, and it had diamond like gems around the breast area. I always pictured myself marring Keir in a ball gown, but this form fitting dress made me rethink that. I loved the way it hugged my curves. I loved how it fanned out a little at my hips. This was my dress. I began to tear up.

"Oh hun." I heard Margaret say softly. I looked at her from the mirror. "You look absolutely stunning." She smiled.

"I love it." I told her as I cried.

"Are those happy or sad tears?"

"Both." I laughed. I was happy that I found my dress but I was sad that I couldn't spend today with my mother like other girls. I felt like I was missing out.

"What's wrong?" She asked.

"I feel like I'm missing out on something because my mother isn't here."

"Oh hun." She said hugging me tightly. "You know if she could have been here, she would have been." She took a step back. "Thank you for letting me come with you to pick out your dress." She smiled.

"I'm glad you came." I told her.

"When the boys got married, their fiancés didn't want me going dress shopping with them." She frowned. "I almost wish I had a daughter to share this moment with. Then you came along and made me a happy old lady."

"You are not old!" I laughed.

"I never pictured Keir getting married. He was always the wild one. I swore he was going to make me a grandmother before I hit fourty." She shook her head and smiled slightly. "Then he decided to leave Ireland to chase a dream. He wound up here, where he met and tell in love with you. Hr then changed his entire career path. I thank you for that."

"You're welcome." I laughed.

"Keir, always the rebellious one. Wanted to be a rock star. Devil child."

I laughed as the sales woman came over to ask if I found my dress. With huge smile on my face I told her yes. Margaret cheered in delight.
