HOSPITAL
I walk into the room where they had Matthew getting his leg plastered up and stand at the end of the bed, watching the nurse put away all the equipment that was used and smile at her as she leaves the room.
"Go on, tell me I was stupid. Tell me I could've been killed by doing what I did. I know you want to," he rambles, looking at me.
"You were and you could've but at the same time, you were brave." I shrug, walking round to sit on the side of the bed. "If you didn't do it, who would've? Neither your dad or Connor have the courage to do that."
"Wait a minute! Are you thanking me?"
"In a way, yes."
"Wow."
"If you didn't go and do what you did, I wouldn't have my baby back."
"And what do I have to show for all this? Nothing but a broken leg."
I sigh, stand up and look down at him. "Matthew, you seem to be forgetting who me and your grandfather are."
I walk over to the room door and smile at him before walking out the room. I look down the corridor at Joe standing outside a room looking very worried. I walk down to him and put my arms round his shoulders. I kiss the side of his head and he puts his arm round my waist to hold me close.
"They said that she's lost more than half her blood and..." He starts before a tear slides down his cheek.
"Don't start crying." I turn him round to face me fully. "Listen to me, she's going to be fine."
"You don't know that!" He snaps, pushing me away and walking towards the exit.
"Joe, come back here. Don't make me give you your sunday name!" I shout, going after him.
I follow him towards the exit of the building and stop just as I spot all the paparazzi waiting outside. Shit! Sunday name it is. "CHARLES HART, STOP RIGHT THERE!"
He stop walking and turn to face me. "Amelia, need you shout at me?"
"You weren't listening so what was I suppose to do?" I ask as I walk over and stop in front of him. "Please don't walk away from this. You were strong enough to keep it together when I was in hospital when I was a teenager. Please don't let me do this on my own because without you, I don't think I could handle it and keep myself together."
"Mia, I know what you're going through and I've been there. Sitting waiting on you to wake up day and night was painful. I did it with you but not my little girl..." He explains as his eyes begin to tear up even more. "I will not sit in that room, by her bedside, and wait and hope that she survives."
"Joe..."
"No! Mia, I'm sorry but I can't do that again. I won't do that again."
I watched him turned round and walk out the hospital without a second look back.
I shake my head and walk back to Odette's room and as Connor stands outside it, holding Emery in his arms. I walk over to him and he looks at me.
"Where's dad?"
"He left."
"Is he coming back?"
I shake my head.
"Mama." I look at Emery who was reaching out for me and take her off Connor.
"She got stitches in her head and..." Connor starts before I turn round and walk away with her safely in my arms.
"Let's get you home," I whisper to Emery as I head towards the exit.
As Joe took my car, Lisa offered to give me a lift home. As the car comes to stop outside the house, Lisa turns and looks at me.
"Any..." She starts before I open the door and get out with Emery in my arms.
"Thank you for giving us a lift home," I thank before closing the door over.
I walk up to the front door and notice that it was wide open. I look back to see if Lisa was still there but the only thing I saw of her, was her brake lights in the distance as she drove away. I turn back to the opened front door and carefully walk into the house.
I look round the hall before running up the stairs and into Emery's bedroom. I quickly close the door over and put her in her cot. She stands on her feet and holds onto the side of the cot, looking up at me as I look out the window into the blackness of the back garden. I wasn't looking out the window for long before I heard a 'thud' outside the room.
I turn and look at the door and as heavy footsteps run down the stairs. My heart rate begins to get faster by the second because I didn't know who else was in the house with me. I feel Emery's hand on mine and look down at her. She was watching the bedroom door carefully like I was doing only a few seconds ago.
I walk over to the door and open it slightly. Bags were being thrown down the stairs and then it stopped. I close the door quickly and footsteps run by it, heading towards a bedroom along the hall. A few seconds later, the footsteps run back along the hall and down the stairs. I open the door completely and walk into the hallway. I walk over to the balcony and look down to the ground floor.
Piles of clothes, jewellery, you name it, were all lying scattered about the floor but it wasn't that that caught my attention.
"Two down, four to go."
I look up at the direction the voice came from as Callum stands outside the master bedroom, holding up a beaten up Joe who looked to be out cold.
"Please, don't do what I think you're going to do." I beg him.
"Too late."
I watch him in horror as he pushes Joe over the balcony and hear him land on top of the pile of things that were on the ground floor. I scream at the sound of him hitting the ground and my hands flew up to my mouth.
"I'm coming after your sons next," Callum informs evilly, walking towards the stairs. "Then, you're daughter...then you."
I watch him go down the stairs and I run back into Emery's room. I slam the door shut and lean against it. I look over at Emery and walk over to her. I lift her into my arms and hold her close as she rests her head on my shoulder. I run my hand up and down her back, trying to hold back the tears I knew were only moments away, also trying to get the pictures of what I just saw happening out my head. Hoping that all of this bad stuff was just a dream.
