Chapter 59

LA - 2 weeks later

I look down at Emery as she sits on the floor watching the TV in the living room of the apartment we now live in. I smile at her before walking out onto the balcony and looking out at the city. I lean against the railing and look down at my wedding ring I still had on.

What the hell am I doing? My family are all at home going through god knows what and I'm here with only one child and nothing else.

"CON!" Emery screams.

I turn round and walk back into the apartment. I look at the TV and see what made Emery scream.

"One of Mia Halliwell's sons, Connor Hart, has flown out to Los Angeles today, in a bid to find his mum and little sister." The news reporter says as footage of Connor walking through the LAX airport is shown.

"Darling, lets go and get you ready to go out shopping."

She stands up and waddles towards her bedroom with me.

We had been out shopping now for almost an hour along Rodeo Drive and were now heading into the Gucci shop so I could get some items they were keeping a hold of for me.

I hold Emery's hand as we walk into the shop and stop when I see Connor standing at the till talking to a women.

"Con!" Emery screams again before he turns round to us.

"Mum, I've been looking for you." He says, walking over to us.

"What are you doing here?"

"You need to come home."

"I don't have to do anything," I tell him.

"Mum, please. Dad really needs you and so does Odette," he replies.

"I can't go back. If I go back we'll-" I start.

"Dad's in a coma and they don't think he's going to make it."

"And what about Odette?"

"She's-"

"Connor tell me."

"She's not doing too good. They're thinking of putting her on a life-support machine now."

"What about Matthew?"

"He's staying with- welk, he ain't staying with anyone actually and neither am I. We just stay at the hospital now because we can't go back to the house and because we have no idea where all the other houses you have are."

"Is..."

"Please just come home. We all need you."

I look down at Emery who was looking up at me. "Birmingham. I have a house in Birmingham that you can stay in. Also one in London but that's too far away from the hospital."

"So will you come home?"

"Maybe."

"Mum..."

"I said maybe! Now leave it."

"So I'll tell everyone you're not coming back. I knew this was a waste of time coming here. Gran was right about you, you do only care about yourself."

He walks past me and I turn to him.

"Connor, stop." He stops and looks at me. I look down at Emery and walk her over to him. I lift her up and give her to him. "Take her back home and don't let anything happen to her."

"Mum, you're just abandoning your children?"

I nod before he turns round and walks out the shop with Emery.
