NEXT DAY
Today, I was allowed to go home with the twins. I was happy because we could now get on with our lives and I'd be able to see Connor!
As the car came to a stop outside the house, I carefully took my seatbelt off and slowly got out. I left the door open for Joe to close but it wasn't long before the door shut over and I felt Joe's hands rest on my hips.
"I want you to go into the house and rest," he whispered into my ear.
I leaned against his chest and looked up at him. "I plan on doing just that."
"Good," he smiled before slowly walking me towards the front door which opened as I approached.
"Finally got let out I see," Roshien beamed from where she stood by the opened front door.
"Took a while," I smiled in return as Joe leaves to get the twins out the car.
"Well, what did you have?" She asked.
"Did Joe not tell you?" She shook her head. "One of each."
"Aw, you got your first daughter." She sequels while giving me a hug.
"Oh, Roshien, stitches." I moan in discomfort. She pulls away and looks over at Joe taking the twins out the car. "Joe's done nothing but stare at Odette since she was born."
"Aw, that's a nice name." She comments. "What did you call your other son?"
"Matthew," I informed as I felt a tug on my jeans.
I looked down and smiled at Connor before he turned his attention to outside and watched Joe carrying the two baby carriers to the house.
"Dada," he smiled, pointing at Joe.
"Hi," Joe greeted, bending down and giving Connor a kiss on the cheek before walking into the house.
"Daddy's a little busy the now," I said to Connor.
He watched Joe in wonder at what he was carrying then turned back to me. I smiled at him again and mentioned for Roshien to pick him up before following Joe into the living room.
I sat down on the closest oversized couch as Roshien sat Connor down next to me. He watched Joe carefully as he took Matthew out the carrier and brought him over to me. I took him in my arms as Joe walked back over to get Odette out the other carrier. He walked over and kneeled down in front of us. He looked at Connor who was looking at the twins in confusion.
"I know you won't understand this right now but we're just going to introduce you to them," Joe explained to Connor. "Connor...the little baby in mummy's arms is your little brother. The little baby in my arms, is your little sister."
Connor looked at Odette in Joe's arms and reached his hand out slowly. I watched him closely as he looked at Odette. He reached for her face and Joe pulled back a little because he was unsure as to what Connor would do.
"Let him, Joe." I said. "He's unsure."
"I don't want him to hurt her," he whispered, looking at Connor who had pulled away from trying to touch Odette.
He turned to me and looked at Matthew. He reached out for Matthew's hand and held it in his. He smiled at him as Matthew began to open his eyes.
"Mia..." Joe's voice raised slightly, watching what was happening.
"He's fine," I comment while watching Connor's reaction.
He let go of his hand and moved away as Matthew began to cry. I stood up as quickly as I could with Matthew in my arms and walked to the other side of the room and tried to calm him down. I turned round and saw Roshien sitting next to Connor and reassuring him that everything was okay. Joe put Odette back in the baby carrier and walked over to me. He put his hands on my waist as he stood to my side.
"He'll think that it was his fault that Matthew's crying," I expressed as Matthew continued to cry.
"It'll just take time for him to get used to it," he explained, kissing the side of my head.
"What if he doesn't?" I asked.
"He will. Stop worrying," he smiled, rubbing my back as Matthew calmed down slightly.
He lay looking up at Joe as Odette began to cry. Joe looked over to the carrier and let me go. He walked over and picked her up. He held her against his chest and began to try and calm her down. I turned and looked at Connor who didn't look to pleased that his parents weren't paying any attention to him. I looked at Joe who shrugged lightly.
I sighed and carefully put Matthew in his carrier before walking over to Connor. He looked up at me and I put my hand out for him to take. He placed his hand in mine and got up off the couch before we walked out the room and into the play room.
I sat down on the couch and let his hand go as he stood on the floor. He looked up at me with sadness in his eyes.
"Baby, I know you're starting to feel lost but..." I started before he began to cry.
I watched him as he fell to the floor crying. I put my head in my hands and heard the door open.
"Not him too," Joe complained, coming fully into the room.
"I can't do this...I can't handle three children!" I shouted.
"Hey, come here." Joe compromised, pulling my hands and making me stand up.
He held me close and I clung onto the back of his t-shirt.
"I can't do this," I whispered.
"It's only been about 30 minutes and already, you're breaking down." He laughed.
"It's not funny."
"It is because I'm the only one that's not broken down."
"Give it time," I laugh, pulling away to look at him.
"I'd rather it not."
"How are we..." I started before I looked down at Connor who had now stopped crying and was looking up at us.
"Well he stopped crying very quickly."
"He thinks that it's the only way for him to get attention," I commented, pulling away from Joe.
"My little man doesn't need to do anything for attention," he said, kneeling down in front of Connor.
Connor looked at him and slowly got to his feet. He reached his arms out and slowly walked into Joe's open ones.
"Aww," I gushed, watching the scene in front of me.
"We still love you," Joe said to Connor as he stood up with him in his arms. "Why don't we go and see if there's any sweets in the kitchen for you."
"You ain't giving him junk food," I said in a warning tone, slowly following Joe and Connor out the room.
"He deserves some after he didn't hit our newborns." Joe walks away to the kitchen.
"Unbelievable!" I huffed, walking back into the living room.
