“Oh my gosh,” Addie whispered.

“Unlock Kitty!” Scott said.

Addie tried to put the key in the lock but her hands were shaking so badly that she couldn’t do it.

“Give me the key,” Scott demanded.

Addie reached out to give it to him, but the shaking caused her to drop the key.

“Crap,” Scott muttered.

Addie scrambled to retrieve the key, but the mixture of terror and trembling hands made it impossible.

And then we heard someone come through the door. Rory.

He looked at Addie angrily and then pointed the gun straight at me.

“Please,” I cried, my heart racing. “Don’t!”

“I have to,” Rory said. “You all have to die.”

The gun made a little noise as he cocked it. He placed his finger on the trigger, ready to kill me.

And then, out of nowhere, Scott hit the gun out of Rory’s hand.

Rory looked shocked as the gun skittered across the room and landed in a corner. Rory looked like he was thinking about running after it for a split second, but then decided not to. Instead, he pulled a switchblade knife out of his pocket.

At that exact moment, Addie jammed the key into the lock and twisted, releasing me from the handcuffs.

Addie and I scrambled to our feet as Rory flipped the knife open. In what seemed like slow motion, he pulled the knife back, ready to stab Scott.

“No!” I screamed as I ran towards them.

But it was too late.

Rory plunged the knife into Scott’s stomach.
