Shit. I was late. I'm going to be murdered. I swung my feet out of bed as I started rushing around looking for my things. I threw on a black t-shirt and a pair of dark wash skinny jeans. I quickly threw my hair up into a messy bun. I grabbed my bag and headed down the stairs. I checked the time on my phone 6:35. Fuck. I was supposed to be there at 5. Jill's going to strangle me. As I made my way into my kitchen I saw a note.

      I'll be back soon

                  -Mom

Great. At least she remembered to tell me this time. I disregarded the note as I grabbed a water bottle. I made my way out the door remembering I had to take the bus.

This is honestly just greatest fucking day ever. I made my way to the bus slowly running to catch it. I huffed as I sat down slouching in my seat. I checked my phone once again 6:48. I'm going to be dead. I looked out the window seeing all the colors pass by. How could something so pretty be so cruel? I noticed it was time to get off as I saw the familiar blue sign.

I got off the bus practically running into the stadium. Just as I stepped through the doors I saw Jill. Dammit. I was hoping that I could just say I was working with Ethan and the sound crew. I'm screwed. She looked at me and started walking towards me. Boss catches you coming in like 2 hours late. Jesus. I can't catch a break.

"Oh my god Jill I'm so sorry!" I was ready to be fired. She took a deep breath. "It's okay. Just get working." She then walked away. What just happened? I was ready to be yelled at and fired. I looked at the clock. It was well past 7. Well at least one thing is going good for me. I walked into the staff room as I spotted my friend, Callie. "Callie!" I called. She whipped around while holding an apple. "Mavery!" she yelled as if she hadn't seen me within the last 3 days. I laughed. "You're late," she commented as she took a bite of her apple. "Yeah yeah I know." I waved her off and put my stuff into the cubby.

"So who's performing tonight?" I asked as I looked around. No matter how many days I worked here I couldn't help but marvel over the stadium. It was huge. Sure I worked as crew but it was still a fun job. New people were always coming in and out with either really good or really bad music. But hey, whatever you music you like you like.

"Did you really forget!?" I gave her a questioning look. "How could you forget?" she exclaimed. "Is it your birthday?" I gave her a nudge. "No." I had no remembrance of what was going on tonight. "Ok let's see um biggest boyband...? 5 guys...? Hot." My hand flew up hitting myself in the face. Fucking One Direction. Great. A bunch of screaming girls. "Oh yeah." I said with no excitement in my voice. I'm not in the mood for this right now. "It won't be too bad!" Callie tried to reassure me.

"What are you working tonight?" I asked her. "Merchhhhhhhh" she said with a smile. She loved working the merch table. I think it's because she slips some money into her pocket sometimes but hey she's pretty good at it. "What about you?" I furrowed my eyebrows thinking of what I was supposed to be doing. "I'm not exactly sure. I came a little late." We usually get our jobs in the beginning.

"I guess you'll be the floater." Callie shrugged. Floater? There's a thing for that. Whatever. I checked the time for the 800th time today. 7:30. The band will be arriving around 7:45. Callie and I made our way out of the staff room and towards the stage. There we ran into Ethan.

"Hey guys," Ethan started, "how's it going?" Let me think about it, Shitty. "Good" I said as Callie went to go talk to Jill. "Ethan stated and he started to untangle some wires. I decided to help him a little bit cause I was just awkwardly standing there. "Yeah I guess so..." I commented awkwardly still trying to get one knot out. It was silent for a little bit. Why is he being so awkward. I finally finished untying the knot. "here yo-" I was cut short by the realization of a pair of lips being connected to my own.

What.

Ethan pulled away sheepishly. When I was about to say something Callie came back. "Hey guys did I miss anything?" I still stood there like an idiot looking into space. What the hell just happened. Ethan? What. Ethan got up from the amp he was sitting on mumbled a quick no and walked away. Just then we heard Jill call everyone down to the stage.

-

"Everybody, this is the band." In front of me stood 5 guys. Of course I knew who they were who wouldn't? They introduced themselves and Jill started to talk again.

"Ok so I'm Jill I'm the manager around here and over here we have Ethan. Ethan works with our sound crew.

"Hey Guys, I'm Ethan." Ethan stuck out his hand to shake. Niall I think, maybe i didn't know this band afterall, shook it while laughing a bit. Why were they so happy. Happiness is rare, only the few lucky actually have it. "Well I've actually got to go work on some stuff before the show but I'll see you guys later." Ethan then hurried out of there. I'm still confused on what happened there.

Jill went down the line until she got to Callie and me.

"This is Callie and Mavery. They help out all around and are the only two girls who work here." Now why would they need to know that. I rolled my eyes. "Well I'll see everyone soon. You guys go on in about 2 hours." Jill left. Well this is awkward. A few other crew members such as Josh, the camera guy, were chatting with the boys.

As I went over to the food table to occupy myself I heard Harry start talking to Callie.

"So you guys here by yourself or do you guys have an opening act?" Callie asked. "Well we have the emos," Harry said as he chuckled. Emos? How would emos tour with One Direction?

"They should be here soon. They're always late." Now those are my kind of people. I silently smiled to myself as I finished picking up a banana.

As I turned around I bumped into a tall figure. I couldn't help but let a little ow escape from my lips. "Oh my god I'm so sorry! I didn't see you there." Of course you didn't. No one ever notices me. I'm just lonely, ugly, boring, Mavery. He noticed I didn't answer and continued talking.

"I'm Luke." I was still staring at my shoes. I mumbled what sounded as gibberish and walked away. As I walked away I thought of how rude I must have looked. Dammit Mavery someone who was actually noticing you and you just walk away leaving them. Way to fuck yourself over.

Maybe I'm just not supposed to even talk to people. Maybe I'm just supposed to stay in the background as life passes me by.

I mean it's what I'm good at, but then again I'm not good at anything.
