"No, no one got hurt." The next morning when I had gotten up and my mom instantly started grilling me. Veronica had told her that I had mentioned Lucy again. This seemed to have worried my mom since she then grounded me to the hotel. Not that I was going to listen to her anyways. I had one day more before I'd be stuck with them practically forever on a stupid road trip. "Can I go now? I'm supposed to help Dipper with something."
"Who's Dipper?" asked mom.
"He works at the Mystery Shack. We went to the dance together last night." I crossed my arms. "Can I go?"
"Fine." Mom plopped herself down on the couch. "But you have to come home tonight. We're leaving tomorrow at 5 am."
I didn't say it but I was thinking about not coming back. I stood up and left the house passing Veronica, Jenifer, and Susan on the way out. I waved to each of them with a smile as I passed while putting on my helmet. They all wrinkled their noises at my red collared shirt and blue jeans. Each of them was in a dress matching my mom's with only slightly different shades. I did this just to spite them. Plus I hate dresses with a passion. They didn't much like my motorcycle either but it was still going on the road trip with me.
I walked out the door and started up the motorcycle. I rode to the Mystery Shack. I always felt strong when I rode my motorcycle. I was proud of it. I'd used my own money to buy it. I pulled into the Mystery Shack parking lot and let my bike idle under me for a while. Gas wasn't cheap so this wasn't something I did often. It made me happy to feel my bike under me. I took a deep breath and kicked down the kick stand. I turned the key and put it back into my breast pocket. I sat back on my bike adjusting my riding glove.
The door opened and Dipper stepped out. "Lillyin! You came back!"
I smiled. "Dipper! I'm glad to see you." I set my hands on my handle bars and smiled. "You got about an hour to spend with me?"
"I've got two." He walked up to beside my bike. "Nice bike."
"Thanks." I stood up and took two Bluetooth ear pieces and an extra helmet. I turned on the ear piece and give it and the helmet to him. "Put these on. This way we'll still be able to talk." I set the other ear piece in my own ear and kicked up the kickstand. "Get on, nerd," I teased.
He put the things on and sat on the bike behind me. He was sitting back on the seat. I leaned back and grabbed his arms. I pulled him forward so that he was up against me. I pulled his arms around my midsection. I started the bike. The roar was deafening. "Hold tight," I said into my ear piece.
"Alright." His voice came back into my ear but his grip didn't get much tighter until I backed out of my parking space.
"We're going to ride like this so that no one can hear us talking. Ready for this?" I put the bike in gear and merged onto the high way. "Don't worry about Lucy, either. She can't take over when I ride because she knows she'll die if she does. She can't ride."
His grip tightened. "Um... okay."
"Alright. I need your help with something." I set one hand on top of his but stayed focused on the road. "Little looser, Dip."
"Sorry. First time riding." He loosened his grip a bit. "What did you need help with?"
"You're fine." I set my hand back on the handle bar. "I found a way to defeat Lucy. Well remembered it really. I have to force her out of my body and into a physical form of herself. The thing is that in this dimension she doesn't have a form..." I bit my lip as a dodged a squirrel before making a sharp turn onto another street.
"So... what do we do?" Dipper's voice was a little grainy.
"So that means that we can't defeat her while in this dimension... but I need your help to find a way into one where I can force her out of my subconscious. This means I need to find a parallel dimension where I never existed. We're in dimension 48'/' right now so I figure that if we can get to at least dimension 50'/' then we should be able to summon her out of my head. Another problem is I'm still short one person on her zodiac who I can't find."
"Lucy has a zodiac? What, and who, are the symbols?"
"The three symbols are a lily, a big dipper, and a sweater. The first two are you and me respectively but I don't know who the sweater is. I know full well that Lucy does but she's locked off her mind to me so I have to figure it out myself." I bit my lip again. "Lucy's zodiac is super childish and simple. Almost like a five year old could draw it. Our zodiacs match certain things about us like out nicknames. However I think the meanings are a bit deeper than that."
"You mean more symbolic or more literal? I have this birthmark on my forehead that is the shape of the big dipper. My real name is Mason. But what about the lily?"
"My father used to call me Lily before he died. It has sentimental value. Now who do we know who does things with sweaters?" There was a pause as we came up on Medford.
Mason gasped. "I know two of them! Mable and Great Uncle Ford! They both constantly wear sweaters."
Having seen Ford shirtless, I knew that he had a real reason for wearing a turtle neck all the time but now why Mable did it. Then it hit me. "We'll need them both." I pulled into a McDonald's parking lot and turned off my bike. I dropped the key into my breast pocket again. "Let's get some lunch." I put our helmets and ear pieces in the saddle bag and we went inside.
