"Well. I guess this is good bye for good." Mable sighed as she hugged me.
I smiled at Mason and Mable. "Not if you come back next year."
She smiled and raced off to say good bye to her other friends.
I turned to Mason and handed him a small ring. "Here. This is my class ring. We'll consider it a promise ring." I smiled and kissed him. "Graduate and come back to me?"
"Graduate and wait for me." He smiled and kissed me.
I dug in my saddle bag. In the bottom I found a silver necklace chain. I took the ring and threaded in onto the chain. I then clipped it around his neck and looked at the 200 dollar ring with my name engraved on the inside.
A/N My ring actually cast me $598 with insurance. E/A/N
He grabbed my hand and held it. "No one's ever going to believe that I have a girlfriend."
"I bet they will when they see a picture of us together." I took an old camera, one that dispenses the picture right away, from my bag. I looked around. Mable was walking by with two other girls. "Mable! Come take a few pictures of me and Mason for my scrapbook!"
"Okay!" Mable ran up, the other two following her. She took the camera.
I stepped closer to Mason and pressed my lips gently to his, surprising him.
CLICK!
I pulled away and took the picture from Mable. I flipped it over and took my pen from my pocket. I wrote, 'Love you, Mason. ~ Lillyin' and gave the picture to him. "See. They can't say you're lying now." I posed beside him for another picture. We spent at least an hour taking pictures. Even Candy and Grenda, Mable told me their names, joined in with us. We probably wasted half my camera by lunch time. After we ate Mason and Mable would be boarding a bus back to California.
**Time Skip**
Tears streamed down my face. "I'm going to miss you." I hugged Mason tighter.
He squeezed me back. "I'll miss you too." He reached into his back pocket and took something out. He took half a step back and reached forward. He tied the thing around my head. "I bought you this yesterday. I hope you like it."
Smiling, I felt what he'd tied around my head. It was an eye patch. "What color is it?" I untied the bow in the back so I could look at it. I had to take off the bandage before I could where it anyway.
"Foe black leather. But look at the inside." He turned it over in my hand.
Inside it was a soft blue cloth with writing in it. It almost looked like someone had taken a bleach-filled marker and let it soak into the cloth before washing it. It said, 'LILLYIN AND MASON FOREVER.' I smiled. "Thank you, Mason." I pulled him closer and kissed him.
The bus rumbled to a stop just beside us.
He pulled away. "Time to go." He picked up his suit case.
Wendy playfully punched him in the arm. "Don't forget us, dork." She laughed.
He smiled. "Don't worry. I won't." he turned around and walked towards the bus. At the door his paths crossed with Mabel's. "Ready to go?"
"Nope." A tear rolled down her face.
I moved quickly forward. I grabbed Mabel and hugged her. "Thank you Mabel." I let her go and smiled. "I'll see you again soon." I took a step back.
She smiled and took a deep breath. "Good bye Lillyin."
"No." I shook my head. "Just see you later."
Another tear fell down her face and she wiped it away with her sweater. She and Mason climbed the stair onto the bus. She opened one of the back windows and waved.
Mason stuck his head out and smiled at me. "I love you."
I smiled widely. "I love you too." The bus started to roll forward and our little good bye party moved with it yelling our good-byes.
