I turned the key off on my bike. James's fingernails were digging into the sides of my coat. I'd been like that all the way to work. I stood up and James nearly fell off the back of my bike. I rolled my eyes as I took off my helmet and took out my ear piece. Those had really scared James. When my voice started in his ear, it had made him jump and dig his fingers into my coat. Every time I said something he dug his fingers deeper into the outer lining of my coat. While it was fine at first, it had started to hurt by the time we reached the Mystery Shack. I shook out my hair and ran my hands through it. The wind had been nice for my hair and the cold helped it from getting static-y but the helmet often found a way to tangle my hair with the strings of my eye patch. I got lucky and it didn't tangle too noticeably. "Ready to meet my home away from home?"
"This old place is where you go every day?" He took off his helmet and shoved it into my saddle bag with mine.
"Watch the cakes." I looked to see if he's crushed my coffee cakes. I liked to eat them with tea. He hadn't crushed them. I smiled and grabbed his wrist and pulled. "Come on James! My shift starts in five minutes."
"You mean you work here?" James followed me in.
I took off my coat and looked around. Everyone who normally was here was but Mabel and Mason weren't here yet. "Mr. Pines, Soos, Ford, and Wendy." I gestured to each of them in turn. "Everyone, this is my cousin, James." I put my coat behind the counter.
Ford stepped forward and extended his hand. "Hello, James. I'm Stanford Pines. You can call me Ford."
Stan lifted his fake eye patch and looked at James. "I'm Stan."
James shook Ford's six fingered hand. He seemed more than comfortable with it, six fingers and all. He smiled. "Lillyin has told me a lot about you. As far as I can tell, she thinks quite highly of you." Everyone looked at me.
I blushed slightly as I strapped on the tool belt I'd left there. "And why wouldn't I? He has many admirable qualities." I set the hammer in its holder. I heard the low deep sound of a bus. My head jerked up just in time to see the Speedy Beaver logo on the side of the bus through the window. I smiled. "Sorry, Soos, but I'm going to meet Mason when he gets off the bus. I'll be back." Grabbing my coat, I ran out into the snow, pulled on my helmet, and jumped on my bike. I took off towards the bus stop.
**Time Skip**
I shut off my bike as the bus rolled away on the other side of the street. I looked around for Mason and Mabel. I found them quickly. They had their backs to me and two other people were there with them. Mabel was the first to turn around. She smiled and ran towards me. I stepped off my bike and seconds later I was knocked to the ground in a hug from Mabel. "I missed you too, Mable. Now get off so I can get up!" I smiled.
She stood up and offered me a hand. "Sorry I got excited."
"I can see that." I laughed and watched as Mason turned around.
He raced across the street to me and hugged me tight. "I'm glad you're here! They moved the bus stop and now I look like an idiot in front of my parents." He kissed me quickly before letting me go and just grabbing my hand. "Mom! Dad! Over here!"
The two turned around. The man was holding a road map upside down and the woman was trying to get her phone to work. I could feel her trying to judge me from across the road. They quickly crossed the road. I felt Mrs. Pines' judging glare lessen when she was close enough to see my face.
"Hello Mr. and Mrs. Pines. My name is Lillyin Castle. My family owns the motel here in town." I lowered my head a tiny bit in respect before standing perfectly strait once more. I shook their hands. "I'll show you the way to the Mystery Shack." I smiled and let go of Mason's hand. I popped up the kickstand on my bike and started to push the hundred pound motorcycle down the side of the road. "Please follow me."
