The next day, Shuichi hadn’t shown up. Nor did he tell you or leave a message with another teacher. You were beginning to freak; did he tell Hideto and Mimiko he couldn’t volunteer anymore? Did he take it into his own hands?
You wanted to cry. How could Shuichi do this to you? Then again, you weren’t really being fair to him. Asking him to stay but staying out of his reach. It wasn’t fair. You laid your head down on your desk as you held back tears. You hadn’t realized how much you cared for him. It was starting to become more than just a simple crush. You were actually in the process of falling in love with him. I’ve known him for two weeks and I’m falling in love with him. How is that possible? But you knew very well that life worked in mysterious ways and you weren’t one to question it.
“[Name] dear, are you alright?”
You glanced up to see Mimiko walking towards your desk. You rubbed your eyes, hoping to get rid of the unshed tears. “Yes, I’m fine.”
“What’s wrong, sweetie?”
“Nothing.”
“Honey, it’s obvious something is upsetting you.”
“I don’t want to talk about it,” you softly whispered. “Not yet.”
Mimiko gave a sympathetic sigh. “I understand. How about you head on home?”
“But it hasn’t even been half an hour yet. It’s mandatory we stay half an hour after school ends.”
“I’m aware of the rules, but I’ll just tell them you were feeling ill.”
You smiled gratefully. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Now head on home.”
You nodded your head and began to get ready as Mimiko exited. Fifteen minutes later, you were driving home. You decided you were going to stop at the café across the street and get something fattening to help cheer you up.
You sighed as you got out of your car and slowly walked towards the café shop. You rejected him, so it was his right to leave you. But you had asked him to stay. That wasn’t fair of me to do. You reached the café and mindlessly ordered yourself a drink.
You walked over to the booth you had sat in before with Shuichi, only this time you were alone… and depressed. Tears formed in your eyes as your thoughts turned to him. I shouldn’t have rejected him. But then… we could get caught and I would get fired, I might even go to jail. Hell, his parents might even sue me for ‘emotional’ damage to their son. But why do I feel so guilty and shitty for rejecting him?
Someone gracefully slid into the booth across from you and your eyes connected with Shuichi’s. They were full of concern as he gazed at you.“[Name] what’s wrong?”
“Shuichi, what are you doing here,” you questioned, ignoring his own.
“I had to run an errand for my mother. Didn’t you get the message?”
“Oh thank God,” slipped out of your mouth before you had the time to think about it. Your hand instantly slammed against your mouth as your eyes widened in shock.
“[Name]?”
“Um… no I didn’t get the message. I just thought you didn’t show up,” you whispered softly, your gaze not meeting his.
“I see. Is that what’s bothering you?”
“No! Not at all,” you answered quickly.
Shuichi smiled, amusement clear in his face. “I see. Would you like to talk about what’s bothering you?”
