• Semi x Een •
---
On Monday, I overslept and woke up by 8.30 am.
Hichimiya had left me a note, saying I refused to wake up, even when she drags me onto the floor.
Which probably was an exaggeration, since I was still on my bed.
"Crap, I'm going to miss breakfast!" I cry, putting my shoes on and stepping out. As expected, when I reach the cafeteria after taking a shower, the ladies who work at the counter were clearing away the food plates.
"Kill me," I mumble, turning around to my usual table. I can see Hichimiya flailing her hands around. When I walk over to the table, I am dumbfounded to see that Semi has two trays beside him.
"I'm not sure about the kind of stuff you like, so I picked randomly. You should hurry and eat since we have to be in class in 10 minutes." He says when I sit beside him on the bench.
Even though I wasn't very fond of soup, I had to admit that I was touched to see a stack of bread slices and juice on my tray.
"At least he tried," Aimee calls from the front of the table. Semi furrows his eyebrows at my friend, and I shake my head with a smile.
"This is more than fine, I'd have starved otherwise." I laugh, thanking him for the food. "Is your Mom fine?"
Semi nods, reaching for something in his pocket. He takes out a note and places it on my tray.
"She got discharged yesterday. She's fine, and she asked me to give you this." He mutters, taking a sip from his glass of juice. Curiosity makes me open up the note, and Semi looks over my shoulder.
I find a smile forming on my face when I see that the note was a recipe on how to make Tekka Maki. What makes me smile further is what she had scribbled at the end.
'Eita tells me you can't cook to save your life... But if you ever feel like making something for him, I hope this helps.'
"Jeez, you dumbass." I hear Semi say, and I laugh, placing the note in my blazer pocket.
And we would have casually continued with breakfast... if my blonde friend hadn't overheard what Semi said.
"What in the Satan's asshole did you just call my Een?" Hichimiya says, slamming a fist beside Semi's tray.
"I called her a dumbass," He responds, taking a sip of his soup.
"Satori, can I crack his skull?" Hichimiya asks, rolling her sleeves up. Tendou rests a hand on her shoulder, while she shoots a glare at my soulmate.
"You're her soulmate. You don't just call her a dumbass, you dumbass."
"But," Semi points at me with a chopstick, "She is one."
"Uh, Eita-kun, you're making Hichi-chan really angry here..."
"I don't get it," Semi says, shrugging. "I call her that all the time."
This makes Hichimiya lose her head, snatching Semi's soup bowl and tilting it so that the contents of it poured into his mango juice. I watch wide-eyed as Semi blinks at my roommate in utter shock before his stare turns to a glare.
"What is your problem?!" He hisses when the blonde proudly placed the now empty bowl on his tray.
"Hichi, why?" I facepalm when she stands up to take her leave. I had a feeling Tendou was very proud of his girlfriend as he snickered and followed her out of the cafeteria with their empty trays.
"That was very satisfying to see." Aimee has to say, wiping her hands on a piece of tissue paper. "I'll leave you two alone."
Kanzaki gives an awkward smile to us before she picks up her finished tray and leaves as well.
"Now what?" Semi sighs, looking at his glass of juice. It was a muddy emulsion, and he shakes his head, before turning to me. "Does it make you mad when I call you that?"
"No," I let him know with a smile. "I know you say that out of love."
Only when Semi drops his spoon do I realise what I had said, and I slowly crane my neck to see him.
His face is tinted red as he scowls at me.
"Shut up, Een."
"I'm sorry, I can't help it."
"You're a big idiot, you know. Always making a fool out of yourself. I can't understand why I like you."
I wasn't sure whether I should feel offended or not, but I was too busy grinning at his words to feel bad.
"You're so random, you say stuff like 'I want pudding' in the middle of a biology class. You always suffer from taking your fringe off from your face like an idiot." He says, and I instinctively reach for my fringe, gaping a little.
"All that, if it was someone else, I would have been annoyed but you just make me want to laugh. This isn't fair."
"You aren't fair either, you go ahead and say something mean even though all you want to do is to hug me," I mutter, recalling what happened in the hospital last Saturday.
"I do not." He hisses, stealing a slice of my bread.
"Hey wait you can't just do that-"
He has already taken a bite out of it.
"This is what you get." He mumbles while he continues chomping onto my bread slice. I cross my hands over my chest, pouting at his actions. But his laugh was contagious; I couldn't help but smile at him.
"Thanks for eating with me today. You know that you can eat with your friends from volleyball club and class if you want to, right? You don't necessarily have to eat with me.""I know that." I hear him say, while I stick the straw into my packet of juice. I couldn't help giggling when I saw that he had picked orange when he found out that the kiwi flavoured ones had run out.
"I'm still thinking of things I can do to make you happy." He says, tapping a spoon on his empty plate. "And to make up for always hurting you."
"Since we've become soulmates," I let him know, "You've been eating with me a lot, and it makes me really happy, you know."
I don't hear anything from his part for a while, so I turn around to see what he was up to. When he sees that I am looking at him, he shakes his head, fumbling with his fingers a little.
"I don't eat with you because it's something I have to do. I enjoy eating with you, Een." He has to say. "And it has nothing to do with you being my soulmate, but because I genuinely like you, as a person."
I am too flustered to respond to him, and luckily, it didn't seem like I was the only one. Semi had stood up, tearing his gaze away from mine.
"We're gonna be late for class, so hurry up, you idiot."
It didn't seem like he would say the words out clearly, but slowly...
I was starting to be able to believe that Semi really did like me, as well.
And knowing that he liked me for the reason that he did... For my flaws, at that...
I couldn't stop smiling like the 'dumbass' that I was.
