"I'm asking you to move in with me when we graduate."
"W-What?!"
"You heard me. If you feel like it's too early or something, I can, and I will understand." He informs. "Just, don't say yes without properly thinking about it."
"Okay, but-"
"And don't say no, without thinking about it, either."
I wasn't sure what came over me. I was completely fine one second, but the next, I started to cry.
Not the kind of crying you see pretty girls in movies do; but the kind with the gross sniffing and constipated expressions.
"O-Oi..." Semi has a panicked expression on his face, putting his feet on the ground and raising his arms up. "Een?!"
My sobs are uncontrollable, and from my tear-fuzzed eyes, I see sweat forming on his forehead. He takes a glance around, noticing the students from different grades eyeing us. This makes Semi stand up and grab my wrist, dragging me out of the cafeteria.
The senior batch of Shiratorizawa students had finished all their classes for the school year, receiving multiple emotional last words at the last session. There was a lot of crying, reddened faces, swollen eyebags, and a lot of snot. I couldn't begin to express in words how much Shiratorizawa meant to me, and Semi wasn't the only reason.
My soulmate takes me back up to my room, where Hichimiya and Tendou are busy playing a two-player game from their game consoles. When they hear my cries, Tendou almost drops the device in his hand. Hichimiya was no better, tripping over her duvet and falling to the ground when she tries to get off from bed.
"Ouch."
"Hichi-chan, what are you doing?!"
"Hichimiya, she started crying. How do I fix this?"
This makes my best friend, who now sat rubbing her ankles in distress, glance at her own soulmate in shock. Tendou shrugs in response, getting off from the bed and offering her a hand.
"Did you hear that? Did you hear that? Eita, do you have a screw loose in your brain?" Hichimiya wants to know. Semi blinks in shock, his glance turning to me.
"You fix it yourself." She hisses, pulling Tendou outside and aggressively slamming the door behind us. Semi takes a few seconds to comprehend what happened, his gaze turning to face me.
"Uh. Well, do you want me to hug you like last time?"
"Mmm."
My soulmate facepalms a little, before he wraps his arm around me. He runs his fingers through my hair, patting my head a little while I tried to control myself.
"Okay. We'll live in dorms then. Sorry I weirded you out." I hear him mumble. This makes me shake my head leaning a little away and then hitting my head on his chest.
"That's not the thing."
"Then why are you crying? I mean, I know I make a mess out of my room but I'm seriously going to start helping you out. And I'll give you your personal space too. I'd want the same, I can understand it. So-"
"But why do you want me to move in with you?"
This makes Semi lean away, raising an eyebrow as if he thought I was insane. "Um. Because I am dating you..?"
"Yeah but. Well... Why me?"
"Because you are my girlfriend." He responds.
"This isn't going anywhere."
"Are you having one of your anxiety attacks? Because I have a confession to make, if it makes you feel better." He has to say, pulling me onto the bed. He crosses his legs, facing me and I copy him, the two of us leaning against the headboard.
"I was really anxious before asking you that. I was worried that I was rushing into things. But still. I like you so I said it."
"You like me?"
"Love."
"Say it in one sentence." I urge, wiping my face with the tissue he takes from my bedside drawer.
"No."
"Then I won't."
"Een, what the fuck." He hisses. His glance then lands on the glow-in-the-dark stars plastered all over the ceiling, before he looks back down at me.
"Wanna do that, too? I have some back at home too."
"Yes. I want to." I say. Semi lets out a little sigh, stretching a little.
"And don't cry again, like that. You look like a dumbass when you cry."
When I raise a fist to punch him, he snickers in response. "No, really. Don't. Anyway, I'm taking your answer as a yes, then."
"Yes. It's a yes. I'm sorry." I mumble, taking a pillow and hugging it tightly. Semi glances at me a little, before he too, grabs the other pillow on my bedside.
"I have something more to add."
"Something bigger than the moving in thing?"
"Kinda. You see, Een, I've been looking for two-room apartments." He lets me know. I blink a little, raising an eyebrow in confusion.
"Uh, you want us to have separate rooms?"
"No, you tool. I want us to live together."
"Then... what's the other room for?" I want to know.
"Fujiwara. I mean, Takeru."
"Oh. Oh. WOAH what?!"
"What do you think? We're gonna need part-time jobs, but they have like shift schedules so we can manage a couple hours on weekdays, at least until Takeru graduates."
All this information hitting my head at once makes me explode, and I sit on my knees, blinking at my soulmate in disbelief.
"The job thing is fine, but you want Takeru to live with us?"
"Well he won't be bothering us, and besides, I know you love your brother. And I'll be at ease too if he was around to take care of you when I'm at classes. I thought a lot about this, Een. I'm really serious about this. I'm serious about you."
"Eita..."
"College is weird. I have friends who changed a lot after they went."
"So you don't trust me?" I ask, snatching the paper Semi takes from his jeans pocket.
"No. I trust you. I don't trust the people around us. And I want us to be safe from them, while also caring about your own personal life."
"You are such a mom..." I mumble under my breath.
"You said something?"
I was sure that a lot of people would hate him for everything he had done in the past.
But just like that, they were all in the past. Semi was doing everything he could, in his own ways, to make me happy. He wasn't the kind of boyfriend like Tendou, who would obsess over his girlfriend and make a fuss. But that, in no way, lessened the affection he had towards me. And for that, I have a big smile on my face, when he falls asleep with his head resting on my shoulder.
Probably the other way around than what one would commonly find in a love story, but it still was one.
And I loved Semi Eita just as much as he loved me.
