• Semi x Een •
---
Our Dad is standing at the door, his hands clutching a huge grocery bag in hand while Takeru looks ready to kill himself. His gaze turns to me with a shocked expression on his face, and when Dad sees me, gives me a little nod.
"Een," He speaks, his voice dropping a little when I step beside Takeru. "God, why are both my kids doing things I don't want them to?"
I had known all along that my Dad didn't really approve of me living with Semi, but there were some compromises that came along with it, after all. Sighing, I open the door wider, greeting him and ask if he would like to come inside. I can see him glancing at Takeru a little before he sighs again, and starts taking off his shoes.
I watch the way my brother walks towards the kitchen counter, and I can't help but smile when I see that he is heating the coffee machine. Anything could go wrong, but there was no way a child could fully hate their parents, and vice versa. And this is proven in the way our dad places the grocery bag on the dining table and glances at me.
"I bought a lot of vegetables and fruits, when I went to Thailand. So I brought you guys some."
"Thanks, Dad." I say, taking out a cup and Takeru fills it, adding two teaspoons of sugar and another one of milk. My brother seems a little frustrated, and I pat his shoulder a little, taking the cup and placing it on the table in front of him. Takeru doesn't look like he wanted to join me with sitting in front of Dad, so I simply watch the way he sits down and takes a small sip of the drink instead.
"How was the trip?"
"It didn't go as well as I hoped, but there hasn't been a loss yet. Your Mom sent you a lot of sweets too, it's in the bag."
"Thank you, Dad. I hope your next project goes well."
"Yeah. It's in Miyagi, so hopefully. Is college going fine?"
"It is. All of my modules are very interesting."
"What are you majoring in, again?"
There's a loud noise of Takeru's hand slipping, and the cup he's holding falls inside the sink. I am praying that he doesn't turn around and say anything that would only make Dad madder.
"Um. English, but I haven't selected which branch I want, specifically, yet."
"Alright."
The air around us is awkward, and it doesn't help, that Takeru has decided to do the dishes manually instead of loading them in the dishwasher. Dad looks around a little, and I can see a small smile on his face when his eyes catch sight of our family pictures (both me and Semi's) hanging on the wall, beside each other. His eyes then drift down to the hallway, before he speaks again.
"Where do you sleep, Een?"
Shit.
"Um, there." I say, pointing to the door of our room.
"And where does Eita sleep?"
Double shit. I pause, I didn't want him to get angry at me, not when he had gone out of his way to make us a visit personally after so long.
"Dad, I sleep on the couch." Takeru speaks up for the first time, pointing to furniture that was peaking from the living room. "Eita sleeps in the opposite room."
It's amazing, how well he covered up the truth, how he said it with such a straight face, and that he can say a lie so easily. Anyhow, I give him a thankful nod, and Dad continues nodding his head and taking another sip of coffee. He looks tired, like he had just finished work and came all the way, so I ask if he wants to get some dinner or pastries from the cafe downstairs.
"No, I actually have a cab waiting, so I'll leave now."
A rather short visit, but I was glad that Takeru said at least something - even if it was a lie - and that Dad responded. My brother follows me out to the door where he stands behind me while Dad puts on his shoes in a hurry.
"I'll see you again. Sleep well." He says, and he smiles a little, reaching a hand and ruffling my hair unnecessarily. He then looks at Takeru, and leaves without another word.
"Well, that was weird."
"It'll take time, you know it, right?"
"Yep. Een, let's just go to bed."
"Okay. Thanks for covering up for me."
"This is why I was born. The younger Fujiwara that lies for the older one." He jokes, and we share a laugh, saying our goodnights and heading off to our bedrooms.
Fujiwara Takeru was a very special boy, and I couldn't be more thankful that he is my little brother.
---
Two days after that, Takeru had gone to Saisei Academy, along with his Stride Club members for a two-day practice workshop.
One would think his biggest concern would be hurrying to pack before their car arrived to pick him up, but Takeru is busy yelling first thing in the morning.
"I just realised that neither of you possess any ability to cook. Do you intend to starve?"
Semi looks offended, rolling his eyes as he drags himself to the counter and pours coffee for himself.
"Fujiwara Takeru, what the fuck. Things like instant ramen and take-out exist, you know?"
"Oh."
"Did you teach him to say that 'oh' thing you always do?" Semi wants to know, watching the way my brother stands, his mouth forming an 'o' shape.
"Anyways," I say, ignoring my boyfriend, "Are you packed and ready?"
"Yes. Just. Buy stuff, don't try to make anything. I don't want to clean up anything when I come back."
"Leave."
Takeru gives us a wave, he's smiling widely before he puts on his shoes and leaves. When he does, I turn to Semi, who slides a cup of coffee towards me and sits down on the kitchen counter. "He's smiling a lot these days."
"Do you want to know what he told me, two days ago before going to bed?"
"What?"
"He told me that the only things in life that make him happy are Stride, Honan, Riku, the Stride club members, and you and me."
"Should I feel touched that I'm included, or should I worry that you, as his sister, comes literally last?"
"You're horrible." I laugh, sitting beside him. The two of us sip coffee, and he lets me rest my head on his arm. It made me think back to Shiratorizawa, how much I missed those days, how much I missed my dorm, Hichimiya and all of my amazing friends, and everything that lead us to here.
No one would have guessed that things would go so wrong at the start and ease around later on, but the fact that we had people who didn't give up on us; and the fact that we didn't give up on each other, is the reason why we are both able to laze around on the couch on a slightly rainy Saturday morning, drinking coffee and possibly, falling in love with each other a little more than earlier.
