I mentally curse under my breath a few time as I slowly make my way over to Luke's table, him not looking at me even one time. His eyes never left his sandwich. Even though I know he sees me, he didn't look up and I proceeded to pull out a chair for myself. At this point I'm just a little lost about where to take the conversation that hasn't even been started but I know I need to say something soon. This is really awkward, especially that he is basically not acknowledging my presence. But I said i would cut him some slack so, despite Luke's all around rude behavior I decide to be friendly.

"Um...hi." I say trying not to sound as awkward as possible. Finally, Luke decides to look up at me. Even though he was looking straight at me, he was wearing a facial expression I couldn't quite decipher. He didn't look annoyed nor angry, sad, distraught, not even the slightest bit of happiness and I'm pretty sure the confusion and shyness that was in his eyes earlier has just ceased to be there. His face was just blank.

"Oh, hey." He said flatly, going back to his sandwich. Well, obviously my efforts aren't paying off.

"Luke, right?" I throw another question, another attempt.

"Yeah." He replies, still everything about him seemed blank.

"So, um...how do you like it here?" I try again.

Surprisingly, he scoffs and looks up to me. "Like it here? That's funny." His eyes are humorless and his small dry laugh echoes just a little, almost sending chills down my spine. "I hate it here." He snarls.

I shrink back in my seat at his harsh words and he seems pleased with himself, a barely visible smirk on his light lips. I sigh in defeat, my attempts failing time after time. I know it's not worth another shot, or else I may get an even nastier reply but something else catches my attention. A bothersome buzzing emitting from the back pocket of my jeans. I soon find the buzzing coming from my phone and I feel my throat tighten up as I see who is calling me.

Mom. The lit up screen says.

I guess Luke sees the flash of panic in my hazel eyes that are now glossy with pure fear because he sits up in his chair slightly, almost like he's interested in what's going on. My breath hitches in my throat as I bring my shaky fingers to the screen of my phone, answering the call.

I quickly bring my phone to my ear only to be greeted by an absolutely ballistic mother.

"Violet Marie fucking Summers!" I already shrink down to the size of a pea at the earsplitting screaming of my mothers voice through the receiver and the use of my full name. "You get your sorry ass to this house immediately!" She screamingly demands. Though, on the outside I'm honestly scared shitless of my mother because she's notorious for abusing me, but then little rebellious side of me wants to follow her statement by commenting that she may pop a blood vessel if she doesn't calm down.

"Y-y-yes M-am." My voice shakes uncontrollably through the phone.

"That little- ." I hear a booming voice from the other line, not my mothers voice but my fathers voice on the other line. What ever I did, I regret doing it.

I shakily end the call, not enjoying my fathers string of insults. I stuff my phone in my front pocket this time and I can almost feel my face turn to ice, the blood drained completely leaving no warmth. I take shaky breaths while showing myself away from Luke who was perked upon his chair now. I stumbled on my way out, my legs had turned to jelly but the adrenaline surging through my veins gives me enough strength to dash to my previous table, leaving Luke by himself, probably wondering what all that was.

"Sorry guys, I gotta go." My voice is shaking completely as I inform Calum and Michael who wear just as confused faces as Luke did.

I leave my tray lying on the table as I dash Past to try and get to the lockers as fast as I can.
