Chapter 89 Bush Babe

It was a relief when the doctor cleared Lila to go home. The hospital walls were beginning to close in on everyone but especially Lila. She longed for the fresh air and the solitude of the bush. The sounds of hospital monitors, doctors' pages, and the constant interruptions by someone wanting to check her vitals had finally pushed her usually tolerant self to a new state of aggravation.

The nurses carefully bundled up the twins and wheeled them to Bam and Lila and the waiting Brown family. With Jace and Lily in tow with the help of Rain and Bird, the new Brown family stepped into the daylight. Bam, in his usual overly protective manner, fussed over Lila shadowing her like a parent following a toddler for the first time. He saw her as fragile. In her most patient of voices, she quietly reminded her husband that she was not a shrinking violet. After giving birth to twins, with no epidural, and having her brother-in-law see her in such a state of undress during her delivery, she had earned her stripes and graduated up to one tough bush babe.

Bam laughed imagining what Matt's expression must have looked like when Lila told him he was going to have to deliver the babies. Bam circled Lila's waist with his arm and kissed her on the cheek. "I like that name...Bush Babe. I'll have to remember that one."

Boarding the Integrity was a welcome sight as it meant home was only a few hours away. Ami and Billy had stocked up on supplies for Lila that were the most necessary including diapers, formula and the basic things that she and Bam would need for the twins for the first few weeks of Browntown living.

After arriving back at Hoonah for refueling, Bam, Matt and Lila took a short detour to Kay and Kenny's to introduce them to Lily and Jace. This would be the first time Kay would officially meet her godson and goddaughter. Lily was excited to see Kay as she had grown to be a very close friend to her much in the way Matt and Kenny had bonded when they first met.

"I can see Bam is a sucker for kids." Kay mused while preparing coffee for Matt and Kenny. Kay had never thought of Bam as a father but his new role fit him well. He doted over the twins and his camera was documenting every new minute of their precious little lives.

Lila was tickled by the thought as well. She could have never imagined that the man who always left her restless and breathless so often had a new love equally as strong as their love.
