A partially reunited wolfpack headed back to Hoonah with Kenny's skiff in tow. Lila and Bam had left the Brownies in the care of their grandparents who didn't mind the extra time with the grandbabies. Noah stayed behind to provide protection from predators and to finish working on the turbine motor for Browntown.
Gabe and Bear always looked forward to a trip into Hoonah as it gave them the opportunity to indulge in their two favorite things-pizza and pretty girls. Things were changing in their lives as Matt looked around at his family. He realized it was a little more than a year ago that Bam married and now he had a family of his own. He and Jill had been together for awhile now and their future plans were coming together and knowing Lila as he did, he surmised it wouldn't be long before she found mates for Gabe and Bear.
Matt left Jill and Lila on deck as they talked about the details of the upcoming wedding. He entered the wheelhouse to check on Bam and handed him something to drink. "Man, things are changing so fast. Seems like just yesterday neither one of us had any prospects for marriage."
"Brother, I've always had prospects." Bam chuckled. "I was just waiting for the right one."
"You snagged a good one in Lila." Matt hopped up on the counter next to where Bam stood guiding the Integrity to Hoonah.
"You didn't so bad with Jill. She's a good fit for you. She's more grounded than you and much more cuter than you." Bam laughed punching his brother's arm.
Matt agreed. "Yeah, I think I'm pretty lucky. She's a good woman."
"So, are your intentions to live in town?"
"That's the plan for now. At least until we can get the sawmill in the black."
Matt ran his fingers through his hair. "It's kind of different living in town. Living in Hoonah is a lot easier than living in the bush.""Are you guys doing okay without me?" Matt asked with concern in his voice.
"We're doing fine. Not that we don't miss you, but Gabe and Bear have stepped up their game and have taken on more responsibility." Bam was sincere in his assessment of the family's situation. "Ma and Da are preoccupied with Jace and Lily so the pressure is off of you to have kids." Bam shook his head. "You know how Ma is. Thank God, we had twins."
Matt laughed along with Bam. It was their mother's sole desire to see each of them married and producing the next generation of Browns.
"You and Jill thinking about kids?" Bam asked.
"We both love kids but for now I think we want to get this venture off the ground before we start making babies. But I will say, I'm getting a lot of practice." Matt smiled devilishly at his brother.
"Too much information, man. TMI." Bam remembered that feeling quite well as he could never get to much of his wife before they were married.
"We're getting close to the dock. Go find Bear and Gabe and get them ready to dock." Matt scurried out the door calling for his brothers.
Once they had docked, the pack departed the Integrity stopping to examine Matt's land purchase nearby before heading to Jill's place. Jill showed Gabe and Bear where they'd be bedding down in her work area as Matt took Lila and Bam up to the apartment. "It's small but you guys can have the living room while you're here. The couch pulls out into a sofa bed."
Lila loved the small apartment and was happy to learn it had indoor plumbing and a hot shower something she missed desperately.
Jill arrived followed by Gabe and Bear and now her apartment seemed especially small. "How about I throw some pizzas in the oven and we eat in tonight?" There were no complaints from the brothers. Matt encouraged everyone to make themselves at home. Gabe and Bear immediately gravitated to the television, a luxury for them. Lila helped Jill set up for dinner as Matt and Bam sat on the apartment steps reminiscing of their lives pre-women.As the smell of pizza wafted through the apartment, Matt and Bam came back inside. Matt took the opportunity to bless the meal and the company he shared it with. He thanked each brother for giving of their time and thanked Lila for helping him find Jill.
Over dinner, plans were made for the next day. The girls would handle breakfast and wedding shopping while the four brothers would concentrate on framing in the sawmill. Everyone called it an early night as they had much work to do the next day.
Jill and Matt turned the couch over to Lila and Bam as they departed for the privacy of their bedroom. As Matt and Jill lay in bed whispering back and forth, Jill distinctly heard the sounds of lovemaking coming from their living room. Jill giggled to Matt. "Somebody's getting busy out there."
Matt rolled over to Jill kissing her bare shoulder. "Well someone's fixing to get busy in here as well." Jill tried to stifle her laughter as Matt pulled the blanket over their heads.
