As family and friends walked to Browntown Lumber, they were greeted by a handsomely suited Matt who welcomed each guest and family member personally. No one was more happier to see him than his mother. She could see both the physical and spiritual changes in him. He appeared content and confident and his eyes told a tale of how much happier he was since Jill entered his life.
When their wedding guests entered the building, they were pleasantly surprised by the setting. The decor spoke to who the bride and groom were, mixing the rustic with the chic into one perfect blend of atmosphere and ambiance.
The Justice of the Peace had taken his spot in front of the sheer fabric backdrop as Matt took his place next to him and patiently waited for his future wife.
Jill had walked part of the way to Browntown Lumber escorted by Gabe who eventually had to pick her up and carry her the remainder of the way in order that she didn't lose her footing on the uneven and unpaved path. Gabe had noticed how lovely her shoes were but they were definitely not made for walking any sort of distance in Hoonah.
Gabe placed her gently on the ground in front of the building, steadying her before he let her go. Jill fluffed out her dress with his help and sent him inside to signal her arrival. She clutched her bouquet tightly and took one last deep breath as a single woman. She and Matt had decided against the customary bridesmaids and groomsmen. Being the oldest of all the siblings, it seemed a little silly to act as if they were still twenty-somethings. Much of their relationship was based on them relying on each other so they chose to walk and stand at the altar with only each other. The Justice of the Peace signaled his assistant to begin playing the music as a breathtakingly beautiful Jill walked through the sliding doors. Matt's heart stopped as she took her first step towards him in all her loveliness.
Their music selection wasn't conventional by any means but it was personal to them and after all, it was their wedding. A solitary Jill walked towards where Matt stood to Train's "Marry Me" never once breaking eye contact with him. It was if no one else existed in that room except herself and Matt.
Matt and Jill chose the traditional exchange of vows and rings. Jill handed her bouquet to a seated Lila and grasped both Matt's hands with hers. They confidently exchanged their "I do's" between a cascade of smiles, blushes and whispers of "I love yous." As the Justice of the Peace proclaimed them husband and wife, Matt didn't wait for the customary, "You may kiss your bride." He enveloped his wife pulling her to him and kissing her like she had never been kissed before. The kiss lasted so long Bam had to interrupt the bride and groom with his customary "Get a room" comment to which everyone broke out into laughter. The Justice of the Peace introduced the newly married couple, "I now present to you, Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Jeremiah Brown."
Bear led off with a howl followed by his siblings and parents. The couple walked down the aisle and outside the doors to steal their first few moments alone together as husband and wife before being bombarded by well wishers and returning for the reception.
