I came back around the curtain after my vicious match with Samoa Joe, wiping the remaining beads of sweat off of my forehead. I glanced around the room, my gaze being caught by a tall blonde dressed in aqua blue. I walked over, placing my arms around her waist and kissing her softly. "Congratulations on your match darling, you did amazing." I smiled at her, leaning back and pulling away.
"Thanks love, it was definitely one of the hardest matches of my life." She nodded as the holding room filled up with wrestlers for the second half of the show. "I should probably get going," I said breaking away from her.
"Fine," she sighed. I pecked the tip of her nose, squeezing her hand one last time.
"Good luck," I whispered walking out of the room and back to my locker room. I smiled to myself, excited to watch her perform tonight. We were backstage for a live show in North Carolina, Charlotte's hometown. She had been giddy about it for weeks, coming home, seeing family, getting cheers for once. I knew I had to make the evening special, I was her boyfriend after all.
"Eric!" I turned around and saw Finn walking up to me. I pulled him into a quick bag as he took his duffle bag off of his shoulders, pulling it open and putting his hand in. He pulled out a velvet box as I smiled over at him.
"You're a life saver man, I owe you one big time." I took it from him, opening it up to reveal a sparkly diamond ring. I picked it out taking a closer look, then placing it carefully back in the box.
"You've done well for yourself man, she's one in a kind." I looked at Finn furrowing my brows.
"You've changed your tune, you weren't saying that all those months ago." Finn sighed, nodding his head in agreement.
"Yeah, but then I realised how happy she made you, and as long as you're happy then I'm happy." I smiled pulling him into another quick hug. "Now go get your girl." I walked away from him walking back down to the holding room. Charlotte had the final match of the night against Bayley. I had spoken to a few people backstage about my little surprise, knowing full well that her family and Ric would be front row.
I watched on the screen as she locked in her Figure Four. I inhaled a massive breath as I heard her theme tune play. I twiddled with the box in my hand, as Bayley came back from behind the curtain. The last couple of minutes of celebration flew by in a matter of seconds as the next thing I heard was the beginning of my theme tune. I took another deep breath, separating the curtains so I could walk through. As soon as I re entered the arena I looked into the ring and Charlotte. She looked over at me in confusion as I placed the box firmly in my hand so it was not visible. I climbed into the ring, walking over to her and being handed a microphone from Jojo. "Hey love," I whispered before the mic switched on. The crowd's cheers died down as we settled in the ring. "So, I feel like first of all I owe an explanation for why I'm here. As you all know, we are in North Carolina, the hometown of my girlfriend." The crowd erupted again.
"Alright guys, let the man speak," Charlotte laughed, hushing the crowd. I turned around so I was looking straight at Charlotte, trying to ignore the crowd and compose myself.
"I feel like tonight is such a special night I need to top it off perfectly." Without saying another word I lowered my tired body down so I was leaning on one knee. I didn't dare look out at the crowd, and especially her family, dreading to see their reaction before it was over. I looked up at Charlotte who covered her shocked expression with her hands.
"Eric..." She muttered.
"I love you so much, and you've bought so much happiness into my life over these past few months. I couldn't think of a more perfect place and time to lay it all on the line. I couldn't imagine the rest of my life without you, so right here I want to ask you the most important question of my life, and show your family how much I care and respect you. Charlotte, will you marry me?" I looked up hopefully, as she nodded her head, a few tears rolling down her cheeks and hitting the tip of my shoes. I stood up as she placed her hands on my cheek, leaning in slowly to kiss her. I slid the ring on her wedding finger, breaking the kiss once I realised we were still in the ring. "Maybe we should head backstage?" I asked.
"Yeah," she replied grabbing my hand and leading me up the ramp. The two of us were smiling widely as we walked backstage to cheers and applause. We carried on walking right back to our locker room for some privacy away from each other. As soon as we were by ourselves she turned around, facing me, and jumping into my arms. I caught her as her arms snaked around my neck. I looked up into her bright orbs, the smile not leaving my face.
"I'm the luckiest man alive," I whispered, kissing her cheek as she hugged me tightly. We stayed like that for a few more minutes when we were disrupted by a knock at the door. Charlotte jumped down and opened it to reveal all of her family. I stepped back into the corner of the room as they all filed in. I looked around, noticing Ric immediately walking over to me. I stood up straighter as he shook my hand.
"Thank you for being the most amazing man to my daughter. Welcome to the family." I exhaled, smiling at him as he pulled me into a hug.
"I love her more then anything in the world." I told him as we felt two more hands join our hug. I could see out of the corner of my eye a lock of bright blonde hair knowing exactly who it was, feeling calm knowing everything in my life was finally coming together.
