"Come on girls, stop dawdling please, Mummy has a big meeting that she needs to go to." Their little legs could barely carry them as I tried desperately to hurry them along the corridor.
"Mummy! Slow down." The harsh tone of Jayla's voice was enough to make me quickly stop. "It's too fast."
"Sorry sweetie." I knelt down and picked them both up, one in each arm, saving their weary legs.
"Who are all these people?" The crew were flitting around us trying to get things sorted for the show.
"They're the people that Mummy works with." Jessica nodded in satisfaction to my response.
"Do you work here now?" Jayla chimed in, being her usual inquisitive self.
"Yeah, remember a couple of weeks ago when I said that I'd be wrestling, this is where I do it." Their eyes were in awe as we passed everything.
Tonight I wasn't wrestling but I had a very important meeting with Steph who wanted to sit and talk. Unfortunately for me the last minute call meant child minding was a massive issue and one that couldn't be resolved.
"Why are we here?" Jayla then asked, watching all the guys run around as we passed hair and makeup.
"I've got to see the big boss lady remember." She wasn't paying any attention to me, instead she watched as Dana sat down.
"Are you in trouble Mummy?" Jessica queried anxiously.
"No poppet." I replied, kissing the top of her head.
We carried on walking a little bit further when out of the corner of my eye I spotted Seth and Roman talking to each other dressed in their ring gear.
"Keep quiet girls," I told them, speeding the pace up a little, looking away from the two of them trying to avoid them.
"Keyonna!" I sighed, stopping and taking a deep breath, turning around to face them both as they approached me.
"Hi," I nervously smiled, keeping my eyes on Seth.
"Aren't you going to introduce us to these two cuties." He reached forwards and tickled both their tummies whilst Roman stood awkwardly.
"These are my daughters, Jayla and Jessica." Roman's eyes fell to the ground, probably wishing it would swallow him up.
The two of us had the most terrific relationship during our school days, but then once the WWE came running our fairytale was over. Distance and communication were the downfall to our relationship, leaving me in Florida alone.
"I didn't know you had kids," Seth continued, unable to see how unsettled I was.
"I guess it just never cropped up in conversation." The girls became infatuated with his hair, tugging the ends lightly.
"Mummy, what's wrong with the grumpy one?" Jayla asked, pointing over at Roman who still wouldn't look up.
"I don't know baby, but maybe him and I should have a chat." His eyes finally looked up at me in fear.
"Come on girls, how about I show you some of the toys we have here." I handed the girls over to Seth who took them back away down the corridor.
"So..." I walked across to the side of the corridor as Roman instinctively followed. "How've you been?"
"Good. You?" He cleared his throat trying to disguise his husky tone which he was always so embarrassed of.
"I'm doing good." It wasn't a lie, my head was finally back in a good space.
"I can't believe you've got daughters, when did that happen?" How could I forget? The past three years had been great.
"A little over three years ago." I could see his mind going into overdrive as he thought a couple of things through.
"You must've moved on from me quickly then." I sighed, shaking my head at how oblivious he was.
"Are you serious? I know you couldn't exactly bring yourself to look at them, but do you really think that lowly of me?" He scratched the back of his head aimlessly.
"Wait." Slowly the realisation was beginning to hit him as to what I was implying. "Are they mine?"
"Yeah," I replied, nodding my head to establish his thoughts.
"Wow," his hands ran through his freshly conditioned hair. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"How could I? You were thousands of miles apart, you told me not to contact you anymore." I tried desperately not to raise my voice thinking back to those days.
"I guess you're right." There was no guessing about it, he'd abandoned them both before their lives had even began. "Do you think I could get to know them?"
"I don't know, it's up to them, but right now they just think you're grumpy and miserable." He chuckled taking a couple of steps towards where Seth had taken them.
"I am sure you'll back me up when I tell them just how wonderful I am." I rolled my eyes, stifling my laugh.
All the way down to the room Roman was asking questions about them, cramming in three years worth of knowledge into just three minutes.
Once we were there they were both happily playing with some toy cars Seth had found them.
As soon as his eyes caught the two of us entering the room he stepped back, allowing me to sit down in between them.
"Girls," I whispered making them both look at me. "Do you remember when all your friends talk about their daddies, and how when you go to their house they have their daddy there?"
"Yes," they both timidly replied, their small hands still fiddling with the toys.
"Do you want to meet your own daddy?" I looked up at Roman giving him the sign to kneel down opposite me.
"Hello," he smiled in a calming voice, changing the grumpy man approach from earlier.
"Hi." Jayla made the first move, reaching forwards to poke his knee, then gave Jessica knowing glance.
"It's nice to meet you," he continued, "do you think I could get a hug?" They both took a few moments to decide if they trusted Roman, then crawled into his massive arms to sit on his thighs.
"How cool is this girls?" I whispered noticing both their smiles wide with excitement, and their heads eagerly nodding.
"Thank you," Roman whispered across to me, planting a kiss each to the top of their heads. I simply smiled back at him, shuffling back to stand back alongside Seth.
