The sun shone in through the blinds, waking me up. I slowly stirred looking on my phone for the time, smirking when I saw the date on my phone. I turned over, expecting to see AJ laying beside me, but instead all I was met with was a piece of folded paper. I sighed, opening it up to see she had scribbled a note for me. "I had to leave for Smackdown early, business meeting, see you at the arena." I read the note out, then scrunched it back up and threw it across the room.
I grabbed my phone, clicking onto my messages to see loads of 'happy birthday' messages from my friends and family, but nothing from AJ. I sighed, she'd completely forgotten the most important day of my year, and worst of all, left for work without me.
I slowly got myself ready, opening up the few cards I'd stored ready to open with AJ, then proceeded to shower and pack my bag before leaving our house to drive down to Houston.
I couldn't help but feel slightly annoyed at how AJ had completely forgotten, she always gave me great presents and we always went out for a meal in the evening, so I was incredibly disappointed knowing none of that would be possible this year.
I got to the arena eventually, walking straight to the women's locker room. "Charlotte, happy birthday." Nattie walked over to me and hugged me tightly, handing me a card. I opened it up to see a cute cat design on the front cover.
"That's adorable, thanks Nat." I hugged her quickly again as Naomi and Carmella also came over to me handing me cards.
"This is from me and Jon." Naomi walked over to her bag, pulling out a gift wrapped present. There was tape everywhere and gaps in the paper making me chuckle. "As you can guess, Jon insisted that he wrapped the present."
I opened it up to see she had bought me my favourite book series in the film version. "Oh Naomi, that's so thoughtful." I hugged her quickly, before placing the cases in the bottom of my bag, keeping them extra safe.
"So what did AJ get you?" Becky asked looking up from tying her shoes. I sighed sitting down on the bench, looking at the small pile of cards I had.
"Nothing. She's forgotten." The four girls instantly came over and wrapped their arms around me, hugging me tightly.
"I'm so sorry Charlotte, that must be horrible." Nattie smiled over at me, offering me small amounts of sympathy. I didn't want the girls to feel sorry for me, I had all my friends around me and I was doing what I loved, wrestling.
"Maybe Jon and I can take you out to celebrate, you can't just spend it at the hotel." I appreciated the gesture, but really I just wanted a quiet night to myself. I was still feeling sad for myself that AJ had forgotten, and wasn't really up for joining the two of them, knowing they'd be constantly hugging and kissing throughout the night.
"I appreciate all the love girls, but I think I'm gonna have a night in for one tonight." I unzipped my bag again, grabbing my water bottle and phone. "I'm going for a quick run, clear my mind, I'll catch you all in a bit." They all nodded watching me walk out to go outside.
A run was just what I needed after the horrific morning I had experienced. It gave me chance to get over the fact that my birthday was just going to turn into an ordinary day, and that the one person I was most looking forward to spending the day with, hadn't even spoken to me all day.
I timed my run perfectly so I had only a few minutes before my match started. I wanted to keep busy, otherwise I'd have probably started crying. Tonight I was facing Alexa in what could only be described as a filler match in between the guys matches. Surrounded by the fans was the last place I wanted to be this evening, and facing Alexa definitely didn't make me feel any better.
The match passed after about five minutes, as I managed to get the three count on Alexa. I walked backstage to be greeted by a chirpy Mickie, wrapping her arm around my waist. "I have a huge present waiting for you, come on."
She walked me down to her locker room, pushing me forwards in front of her. I pulled the handle down and walked in, reaching around for the light. My hand brushed across the switch pushing it down.
"Surprise!" The room was filled with all of the team at Smackdown, jumping up and letting off their party poppers. My heart was so full from the love I received from the all, I couldn't help but begin to cry. I looked around at everyone, catching AJ's figure walking towards me, carrying a huge present and a card.
"And you thought I'd forgotten," she teased, walking over me and handing me my gift. I placed it down on the ground, reaching forwards and pulling her into a massive hug. I pecked her cheek hearing everyone cheer as the champagne drinks were passed around.
"Did you do all this?" I asked, taking my present and unwrapping it.
"Of course I did, business meetings take a lot of planning I'll have you know." I sniggered at how much work she'd put into her lie to create the surprise, tearing the paper off to reveal a cardboard box. I pulled the lid apart, looking in to see a long black velvet box. I grabbed it and picked it up, carefully removing the lid to reveal the beautiful diamond necklace I had been looking at for weeks.
"It's the exact one," I smiled, watching as AJ picked it out of the box. She walked around behind me and placed it around my neck.
"Perfect," she whispered placing a kiss to my lower neck.
"I can't thank you enough for all of this." I grabbed her hand, waving to all of my friends who were in attendance. Dolph walked up to me, handing me a glass. "Lets get this party started!" I screamed, raising my glass in the air.
