Even now I couldn't help but smile, looking down at the sparkling ring on my finger, setting myself up for the future. No one I'd met before had still been so excited eighteen months into their engagement, but how could I not be? Baron was incredible, of course he was, he was Baron.
We'd planned every meticulous detail, well I'd done most of it, and the big day was so close now. We had one week left to go until I walked down the aisle and married the man of my dreams. Baron was finishing his final live show tonight before we got the week off to prepare, just down the road from us meaning he'd be home tonight.
I spent the day doing some final payments for the little things, bits of food, decorations for the reception, all the things I was frantic about, but Baron, didn't care at all. I knew it would be a late wait, but I couldn't wait to see him. I'd stayed up late at night, finishing off the name places I'd created for everyone, and a little gift for them all I'd handcrafted.
I looked up at the clock seeing it had gone one o'clock, contemplating just going to bed when the door finally opened. I looked up seeing a tiring Baron walk through the door, throwing his bags down as soon as he stepped in. "Hi," I whispered, walking over and hugging him as he loosely wrapped his arms around me. "You alright my teddy man?"
"Yeah, a lot better for seeing you." I reached up on my tiptoes, kissing his cheek softly, then grabbed his hand, walking him to his seat on the sofa.
"I've been doing a lot of little bits for the wedding, boxes, sweets, trinkets for the girls, they're so sweet." I lifted one up to show him, but his eyes were busy elsewhere. "Baron," I whispered trying to get his attention. He slowly turned around and looked down at me on the floor nodding his head.
"Hmm." He hummed, pulling his phone out of his pocket. My heart sunk a little in dejection, I thought he'd be thrilled to see them and how hard I'd worked on them.
"Do you wanna have a better look?" I asked, being as relentless as ever. I didn't want them to just be brushed aside, not these anyway. He sighed, nodding his head, leaning forwards and snatching it from my grip. "They're each personalized, especially our families, different things they've been asking for, bits and bobs." He picked out a few things, fiddling them around in his fingers, then dropping them back in.
"You did good," he muttered under his breath, placing the box for his sister back down on the floor.
"Are you sure you're alright? You seem really disorientated." He weakly smiled nodding his head, but the glisten in his eyes had disappeared, telling me everything was not as it seemed. "We're getting married sweetheart, if you've got anything to say you can tell me." He sighed once again, lowering himself down and sitting beside me.
"I'm scared." He whispered, looking down at the carpet.
"Me too, we're getting married, it's not just like a usual day." He shook his head, reaching forwards and taking a hold of my hand.
"No, you don't understand, I'm scared about you, about us." I looked down at him, trying to catch his sight so he would look at me.
"You're scaring me now too," I chuckled trying to lighten up the situation, but his glum expression remained. "Can you please just tell me how you're feeling?"
"What happens if you find someone better than me, move on and leave me. I'm such a mess DeAnna, you don't deserve someone like me. I love you, and I want to marry you, but what if I'm not good enough, I leave you for so many weeks of the year, what kind of husband does that?" I watched a tear roll down his cheek, quickly reaching forwards to wipe it away.
"It's a daunting prospect, promising the rest of your life to one person, but I wouldn't want that one person to be anyone else but you. I get it, I do, you think I don't have my worries sometimes. I love you, I've told you so many times, so what if you go away, it sucks of course, but I've stuck by you on your travels for years, a ring isn't going to change anything. Just look at me." He slowly raised his head, staring up at me, rubbing his eyes in a bid to stop the tears. By now it had gone two in the morning, but I couldn't sleep knowing he felt this way.
"You won't find anyone better? Regret it, you know." I shook my head, quickly reassuring him.
"Of course not, it's always been you sweetheart, I want to marry you and spend the rest of my life with you, if you want to do the same?" He nodded his head, squeezing my hand tightly.
"I've wanted to marry you since the day we met, I just feel like I'm not good enough for you, I bet I'm not what you envisioned when you dreamt of your fairy tale as a child." I sighed, moving across and hugging him tightly, perching myself on his lap.
"No, but who really wants a fairy tale, I want to live my life, not follow the dreams of a cartoon I watched when I was little. You may not be the typical man, but you aren't just any man, you're my man, and I love you." The corners of his mouth finally turned up into a soft smile, leaning forwards a little and kissing me softly. I placed my hand on his cheek, kissing him softly back, only for him to pull away as he quickly yawned.
"I love you too," he whispered, clasping his mouth shut as his little yawn escaped.
"I think someone needs to go to bed." He nodded, standing up with me still in his arms, walking upstairs and chucking me down on the bed, throwing his top off, and quickly snuggling down, clasping his arm around me, holding me tightly as he quickly went off into a deep slumber.
