Chapter 38

Natsu's POV

So there we were.  Everyone at the table. Except for Gray, Jellal, Erza and Lisana who ditched us for some basketball game that we all planned to go to after the wedding. Levy had connections.. Instead, we were having breakfast ( lunch for Happy and I..) to keep Lucy company.

Brunch it was. Happy and I were actually eating while everyone else just laughed and told stories and talked about almost everything in existance. Who would have guessed this day to end in food? 

There was an awkward tension in the air.

And there was Luce. She was talking so much, she barely got to eat.

I felt bad for her. She was stalling. I could tell.  Maybe it was good for her.. maybe this was her way of coping. Or maybe she really didn't care. I could never find out unless she told me.

I once knew her. Everything about her. We could read each other's mind almost. Now, we just grew apart. I had to accept it.

" What are you looking at?" She said, as she caught my gaze, in a rather soft voice.

"I have no idea, you tell me." I sarcastically replied.

Then I got a quick punch to the arm. Bad move Natsu.

She was still smiling, as she excused herself. She got up and left as Julia and Lefto looked at each other with disgust.

I've finally admitted my feelings and that was enough. No need to rush her into feeling the same way.

"Okay well its been near a day." Lefto was telling everyone. Almost demanding.

"Levy are you sure we should leave Lucy. . .  like this?" Gajeel patted her on the head.

Levy? Then whose Lefto?

I shrugged it off.

" Look, Juvia's here anyways.  We all have jobs and lives to get back to. Fact of the matter, she probably just needs time alone anyways. Right?" She looked around for support, but everyone looked away in pity.

"How do you know I don't already have plans? " Juvia retorted. She crossed her arms and sat up straight expecting an answer.

"I can assume it because you're jus-"

"I dare you to finish that sentence." She cut her off.

Levy huffed as if to hold back something but just turned to Gajeel.

" Yeah, well I hope everyone has a good night, but we have to go. Give Lucy our farewell when she comes back. " She grabbed her things.

" No need." A rather sad voice filled the room. Lucy came up from behind a corner and surprised us all.

Juvia and Levy gave each other one last evil glare and presumed to reality. Levy left, dragging Gajeel.

Juvia called over a waiter and before we knew it, we were all packing up. All except Happy. He was still eating some sushi and a lot of shrimp.

He was even getting red in the face. I didn't blame him since he was on his fifth plate of food.

" Dude, you could just get that to-go." I insisted.

" Why are you only telling me this now, when I'm nearly finished?"

"It was funny seeing you try to finish that." I shrugged.

He shrugged, rolled his eyes and carried on eating.

" Juvia, are you alright? " Lucy hesitated.

"Yeah. Just fine."

...

Even the car ride home was full of tension. Nobody said anything about anything.

Lucy's POV

As much as i wanted to mope around and cry, it wasnt much of a loss to me. I've been over Sting so it was pointless to cry about it. I was free now.  Now I just had to help out my friends.

I heard them. Levy and Juvia are fighting. Because of me. I don't know exactly what happened but I know. There's something. 

So nobody wants to be around me. Juvia even feels like I've taken her social life. I mean, I know she doesn't do anything by herself. Ever. With out Gray or me. But atleast she likes to be with gray.. but me, it's all for pity. She deserves her space.

I see Natsu catching on to my determined smile. I've found a new project.

" Did you solve a crime or something?" He looked at me sideways from the drivers seat.

" I think so." My voice sounded shrilled.

I just need to give her space....

" Natsu, is it okay if you and Happy stay over for a bit?" I asked, quitely.
