Chapter 23

*4 weeks later*

"We have a new mission everybody!" announced Coulson from the doorway in the living room where he and his team were gathered.

"What is it?" Simmons asked, looking up from her book. .

"There have been disappearances in the Rocky Mountains. Pine Tree Ridge Lodge is the resort where people have been going missing. We're going under cover as three couples spending a week there for Christmas vacation."

"Awesome!" said Skye, "an undercover mission which I love," she said as she looked at Ward, "and in the Rockies - a new place I've never been, and for Christmas! This mission is the best!"

Simmons laughed, "it does have its appeal, yes."

"So all we have to do is go undercover looking for anything out of the ordinary. If we find anything, tell the others."

"Sir, you said going undercover in pairs. Who are the pairs?" asked Fitz.

"I want a specialist or a field agent with you three youngest. So the teams are May and Fitz, Me and Simmons, and Skye and Ward, because I feel like those two would end up together even if I put them in different pairs."

Everyone laughed while Skye and Ward blushed.

"What do we tell Rose and John?" asked May.

"Well they went out, John said he had a surprise for Rose and a question to ask, but if they want to tag along to go to a resort in the Rockies with us then they are more than welcome."

Rose and John walked back to the bus hand in hand, "who do you think will notice first?"

"My gut says one of the girls," said Rose, "girls are the ones who tend to notice new shiny things."

They both laughed as they stepped aboard, "we're back!"

Skye popped up from behind the railing, "awesome! Guess what! We have a new mis- OH MY GOODNESS ROSE!"

Rose smirked at John, "told you."

Skye ran over to look at Rose's ring. "Congratulations! Oh rose, your ring is beautiful! John," she gasped, "you certainly know how to pick a ring."

"Why thank you, Skye," said John with a fond smile as he watched the two women gush over the ring.

Skye stayed in her bunk for the rest of the day getting ready for the undercover trip at Pine Tree Ridge Lodge. She packed her laptop, phone, charging cords, clothes, snow clothes, snow boots, uggs, and emergency marshmallows, because you never know when you're going to need to toast a marshmallow. When she finished packing, she brought Jemma and Rose into her bunk to talk about Rose's upcoming wedding.

"How did he pop the question?" Skye sat cross-legged on her bed, staring at the girls.

"We just went on a walk and while I was looking at the beautiful scenery, he got down on one knee and when I turned around, he asked me to marry him. And I said yes!"

"We're so happy for you Rose," said Jemma with a smile.

"Thanks," said Rose, "I haven't stopped smiling all day."

Skye laughed, "we noticed," she nodded at Rose and they both turned to Jemma, "so Jemma, anything you want to tell us?"

"What do you mean?" Jemma's eyes widened in curiosity as the conversation was steered towards her.

"Rose noticed a few weeks ago and a few days ago I started to notice too, you and Fitz act a lot differently around each other now. What happened?"

Jemma sighed and laughed, "guess we can't keep it a secret much longer than we already have. Fitz and I have been dating for half a year at this point."

"WHAT?!" Skye's jaw dropped as she stared at her friend in disbelief. "How did we not notice that? And we call ourselves spies?!"

Jemma laughed again, "I don't know, maybe you were preoccupied staring at my brother, Skye."

Skye blushed, "I'll admit that I did my fair share of staring at him, but I think you're forgetting that I spend most of my time in the lab with you and Fitz."

"That's true," Rose piped in.
