Chapter 2
Tobias
My day starts as unfulfilled as the last one. I'm constantly wondering if it will ever go. The constant pain of losing the one you love. There are very few people who will ever understand that pain. This is why I feel so afraid and alone.
Quite ironic, isn't it? The boy with four fears, always afraid.
Today's my day off from work in the control rooms. When I started my job, I thought working with the computers would distract me from her. God was I wrong. I watch the security screens day after day and I always hear or see something that starts the trigger. Someone's laugh. Someone's smile. Even the way someone walks. They're all triggers to the infinite pain.
After getting ready, I walk down to the cafeteria to grab some breakfast. Zeke, Shauna and Christina are already seated.
"Hey guys. Where's Matthew?" I ask Christina, they've been dating for quite a while now and are inseparable. I guess the grief of losing their loved one brought them together.
"Oh hey Four, he's at the hospital checking up on some patients." Christina has gotten some of the life back in her from meeting Matthew. Whereas I didn't have anyone. Not that at wanted someone, she can't be replaced.
"Oh okay." I replied as I sat down with my breakfast.
We chattered mindlessly as we finished breakfast. My friends were also one of the very few distractions but all too soon I was walking back to my apartment alone.
Today was clearly going to be one of those days. I would most likely go home and just stare out of the window all day reminiscing. Zeke caught me like this once and it resulted in one of his failed attempts to make me more 'sociable'. According to Zeke, I need to 'get to know the ladies'. Which, we found out after numerous attempts, just made the whole situation a lot worse. Every little thing reminded me of her and that just resulted in more pain.
I was so occupied in my thoughts that as I turned the corner I didn't notice the young blonde girl running full pelt towards me.
She crashed into me and fell to the floor. I reached down and grabbed her hand. Sparks flew up my arm. Her hand was small and soft, just like hers. Another trigger.
As she stood up and brushed herself off, I noticed her small yet muscular body was clad in a white hospital gown.
I gave her a puzzled look and said,
"Um are you ok? Shouldn't you-"
Then we locked eyes and my heart soared.
