Chapter 19

Tris

My heart broke knowing what I had done, and what I was still doing, was hurting Tobias like this; his deep blue eyes conveyed how betrayed he felt.

"I'm fine Tobias! Really, I am an adult, I can manage this fine by myself!" I was shouting as angry tears trailed down my cheeks. I was angry at him, myself and most importantly the people who have caused this distrust between us.

"Damn it Tris! No you cannot! Look at yourself! Who have you become? Some science experiment? I have been so worried about you! This is not you and we both know that! You know how susceptible I have been about this whole thing and the fact that you have been hiding things from me really hurts me Tris! I have lost too much in my life and I am not prepared to lose the one thing I have left."

"I've lost things too Tobias, my whole family! Being dead for 2 years really sets someone back and I thought you would have realised by now that I am fine!" it was a low blow bringing up my 'death' but all pride had been thrown out of the window.

"But you're not Tris! I am not going to continue to argue about this Tris, you need to sort this serum stuff out or I won't be able to do this anymore!"

It took me some moments to process his words because all I could think of was life without him. No serum could do half of the damage that would be caused by Tobias leaving me.

"So what then, you're going to leave me?" I could feel the hysterical panic arising by the thought of Tobias actually leaving me.

The hardness in his dark eyes evaporated almost instantly at my words. "Oh Tris, of course not." He walked forward and took my defenceless frame into his arms. I cried silently into his chest as he stroked my hair and kissed the crown of my head.

After what seemed like a silent eternity I looked up at him and said, "I am so sorry Tobias."

His soft lips then started to kiss my neck and I knew where this was heading. As wrong as it would be to do that after our fight, I couldn't help the desire unfurling in my stomach. His hand then moved lower to caress the side of my body. I shivered at his soft, sensual touch and kissed him with everything I had.

He broke the kiss for a moment to slip my shirt over my head and then his shirt followed. I looked him in the eye and whispered, "I love you." He cupped my cheeks and replied with, "I love you, Tris."

My bra was unclasped by his calloused hands just as his lips started to descend lower on my body. He took his time to kiss and touch every inch of skin available to him as I gripped onto his hair. "T-Tobias please," I moaned.

"Tell me what you want baby, it's all about you."

Pleasure rolled through me in waves as I gasped what I wanted over and over again. "You, Tobias, you, please,"

I felt his answering smile as he bit the skin of my hip gently. He made sure I got what I wanted in record time; his muscular, naked body was hovering over mine as soon as possible. His hips gently rolled into mine as we moaned together at the feeling of skin on skin.

He sat up quickly and smoothly, pressing me even further into him. All our apologies, love, passion and hate was shown in the way we moved together. It was a feeling I would never tire of.

I walked towards the lab with a purpose this morning. My spirits had been renewed and I knew what I had to do.

Lucas saw me first. "Hey, Tris...you look a lot better! We were worried the Nourishment serum was becoming too much for you."

"It did. And that's why I've come here today."

He blinked at my blunt response but told me to continue.

"This is not what I signed up for. Having my life sucked out of me by some stupid experiment! From now on I am only doing things I am comfortable with, this not being one. I will continue to test serums like the simulation serum, but things like the nourishment serum, where you are not even sure how it will work, are a no. And if you cannot respect that then you will have to find yourself another person willing to go through what I am going through."

Lucas continued to blink at me after my outburst. "Um, yeah okay...that should be fine. I, uh, understand where you are coming from. Sorry for any, ahem, problems this has caused you."

I smiled smugly at him as he asked me to test another simulation serum now. He seemed slightly scared by what I had said and I was glad.

Before long I was seated in the same concrete room with the one-way window facing me. A scientist inserted the needle into my arm and this time I greeted the feeling like it was an old friend.

My eyes opened to be greeted with a grassy plain. In the distance I could see the Bureau. I stared to run towards it and for a while, everything was fine there was just an underlying sense of dread hanging in the air. But suddenly I stopped running. There was a loud roar coming from behind me. I whipped around to see a lion and a lioness who was dragging a small, dead animal away from the male lion. Shock was the first emotion I felt, I had only ever read about these animals before, the second emotion was fear. These animals were dangerous hunters. However as I continued to watch the lion was getting angry, his lioness had betrayed him by keeping the food a secret for herself. That's when the lion locked eyes with me. I could see all over his face that I was his next prey. My legs burst into a sprint as I tried to run from the predator as fast as I could.

I chanced a look behind me and to my relief, the lion was quite a way back. I kept running when I collided with something that sent me sprawling to the floor. I stood up, not seeing what had stopped me. My hands raised up in front of me and that's when I felt the glass wall.

My heart plummeted. How was I going to get away now? I looked side-to-side when my eyes zeroed in on a figure that was coming closer and closer. It was Tobias.

"Tobias, help me, Tobias, I need to run, help me!" I banged on the glass until my hands turned red.

He looked up with hatred in his eyes. "Why should I help you? All you've done is betray me." My face contorted into horror as the realisation dawned on me, the lions represented us.

"No, Tobias, no!" I started to shout as he backed away. "Please! No, I-I'm sorry!"

The lion was nearly on me. I could see my reflection in the glass as grey clouds covered the blue sky. My reflection looked at me. "You know what to do." She said. My hands curled into fists at my side as I turned to face the advancing lion. He ran towards me with such speed and grace. The centimetres decreased the closer he got to me and at the last second, I closed my eyes and fell into the ground.
