Chapter 8
Tris
Things have been pretty normal the last few days. I think I have finally made my decision about the serum testing offer and I am sure of my answer.
Zeke and Shauna’s get together is tonight and I know Tobias is pretty excited.
“Morning babe,” grinned Tobias, earlier this morning.
I blushed at his pet name, “Morning, you’re very cheery this morning!”
He smirked, probably noticing my flushed cheeks, “I’m just excited for tonight, that’s all.”
I grinned at him as we finished our breakfast; it was nice to see him so happy after everything that has happened between us.
We continued on with our day, Tobias working at the control room, me lounging around the apartment.
I glanced at my watch and saw that the time was half past six. The party started at eight and Tobias got home at seven.
I jumped up and went to get in the shower. Stripping my clothing I stepped into the hot water, which instantly relaxed my muscles.
I stepped out and slipped my dress on and walked over to the mirror.
It suited my petit shape quite well and I felt comfortable in it too. I started to do my make-up just as Christina had instructed: eyeliner and mascara.
I looked blankly at the make-up she insisted I brought.
“You can do this Tris, it is just make-up you-“
“Tris who are you talking to?” Tobias peered through the bathroom door. The question was forgotten when he took in what I was wearing.
“Tris… you look great,” he smiled as I blushed.
“Thank you,” I mumbled, looking down.
He wrapped his arms around me and kissed the top of my head.
“I love you Tobias,”
“I love you Tris,”

We walked down the mostly empty corridors hand in hand, on our way to Zeke and Shauna’s apartment.
I had finally finished my make-up and I think Christina would be proud of my efforts. Tobias had dressed in a black shirt and black bottoms; formal Dauntless.
Knocking on their door, we could already hear the music blaring through the apartment.
The door swung open to reveal Shauna in a beautiful black studded dress, with a drink in her hand.
“Hey guys! Come on in!” she grinned excitedly.
We smiled back and walked into what was a Dauntless party.
The apartment was filled with around 15 people; tables were filled with drinks and food and different coloured lights flashed around the room. A few people were dancing but most were just talking and milling around.
“Tris, Four! Finally you’re here!” Christina walked over to us with a smiling Matthew.
Tobias and Matthew shook hands and started talking while Christina kept talking about how I looked and how amazing my make-up is. But my attention was else-where.
In the corner stood David, talking to Lucas Benedict the man who had offered my serum testing job.
I gasped slightly and clamped a hand over my mouth.
I interrupted Christina, “Um Chris, can you just excuse me for a moment, thanks.”
I walked straight over to them to see if he remembered me.
Lucas saw me first, “Ah, Tris what a lovely surprise! This is David, manager of Serum Testing, here at the Bureau.”
David’s eyes landed on me and I noticed an un-readable sparkle in them.
“Tris, what a beauty” he smirked and stuck his hand out to shake,” Such a pleasure to meet you,” I ignored his hand and turned to Lucas.
“Lucas, can I talk to you please,” when David didn’t move I cleared my throat and continued in a strained voice, “alone.”
“Oh-of course, can you just give us a minute David, please?”
He nodded and walked off smiling.
I wanted to wrap my hands around his throat.
“What is it, Tris?”
“You know what happened to me don’t you? I got shot.” He nodded, “Does anyone know who did it?”
Instantly he shook his head, no, “No-one knows. It was as if we had just lost our memories, we’ve tried talking to as many suspects as we can but no-one has any idea.”
I stiffened at his answer.
David shot me and doesn’t remember a thing.
