Chapter 4

Tobias

I held my beautiful Tris as I absorbed every centimetre of her face. Her stern, insistent eyes are blurry with tears yet never any less beautiful. Her golden hair is exactly like it was when she got down from the net at Dauntless, a perfect Abnegation bun but with small strands of hair escaping and framing her face. I take in her pink lips open in a wide smile and long to feel those lips on mine. I take in the three black ravens inked on her collarbone and absent-mindedly trace them with my finger.

She takes in a sharp breath and I smile at her,

“So beautiful,” I whisper

A tear slipped down her cheeked ad she whispered,

“I’ve missed you so much,” her voice caught on the end and I felt my own eyes tearing up.

I leant my forehead against hers, cupped her cheeks with my hands and smiled at her,

“And I’ve missed you. You don’t know what it was like Tris, thinking you, my love, were gone…” I grimaced as the memories of shattered lamps from angry, upset tantrums raced through my mind. “I’ve been through my fear landscape and now knowing what it’s like to lose you, makes the whole thing absolutely terrifying.” I whispered.

She gasped, “Tobias…it’s my entire fault! If only I could’ve had at least some restraint then none of this would have happened! We would be thinking about our future and a family-“her words shocked me and her. I pressed my lips to hers, silencing the verbal abuse against herself. I couldn’t take it.

Many people would be angry in a situation like this, but over the years I’ve realised you have to cherish the moment and not live in the past. That’s why I moulded into our kiss and savoured every moment, knowing it could be taken as quickly as it started.

We walked hand in hand to my apartment. Everyone was waiting there for us to arrive. Before, Tris went back to the hospital, shivering slightly from bad memories she explained. I knew it was something more than that, but I didn’t press her. As she gathered her belongings and changed out of her hospital gown into a red and black top that showed her tattoo and dark grey pants, I called Zeke, Shauna, Christina, Matthew, Cara and Caleb to tell them that I had important news and to meet me at my apartment in 20 minutes. They all replied enthusiastically, probably because it was the most emotion I had shown in my voice in two years. I couldn’t seem to wipe the stupid grin off my face. It expanded every time I looked at Tris.

I couldn’t actually believe she was here. I felt like God had finally showed me some mercy after torturing me with grief the past two years. It was a bit harsh but I couldn’t help the thought.

We stood outside my door. I wrapped my arms around her waist and pulled her close.

“I’m nervous Tobias” she whispered into my shirt,

“Don’t be. Just be prepared for some tears.”

She giggled and leaned up on her tippy toes to kiss me. I deepened the kiss by crushing the non-existent space between us and tightening my grip on her. She pulled away all too soon and I pouted at her. Giggling she whispered in my ear,

“Later,” my mouth fell open as she smirked and walked to the door. She was such a tease. I didn’t honestly think we would be showing this much affection considering she had just woken from the dead, but I wasn’t complaining.

I followed her to the door. Zeke had a spare key because he knew what could sometimes happen if I was caught up in memories and grief. Tris took a deep breath and I opened the door.

She was going to wait outside as I explained what was going on. I walked in slowly, to be faced with everyone sitting around my spacious living room. Zeke jumped up.

“Hey Four! How you doing?” he asked cautiously.

“I’m great actually Zeke.” He seemed taken aback by my response, “Sit, I have something to tell you. So um I want you to meet someone. Just don’t go all mad over her, she’s had a rough day, okay?” I asked

They all nodded. Then Tris walked through the door.

The room was silent; you could hear a pin drop. Shock was registered on all of their faces and Christina had tears seeping down her cheeks.

Caleb was the first to speak;

“Beatrice…I…how? What? Oh my goodness!” he walked forward and Tris flung herself in his arms. I was pretty sure they were both crying. Caleb kept telling her how sorry he was until they finally let go and Tris walked up to Christina.

“Stand up.” Tris commanded. I chuckled at Christina’s expression, she was shocked beyond belief.  She slowly stood up and punched Tris in the arm.

“Ow! What was that for?!” she cried,

“DON’T YOU DARE DO THAT TO ME AGAIN BEACTICE PROIR!” she screamed then wrapped her arms around Tris in a massive bear hug. She sobbed into her shoulder and both girls told each other how sorry they were.

After Tris had greeted everyone she came and stood next to me. I gripped her hand and whispered in her ear, “Well done,” smiling sadly, she looked up at me,

“It’s not over yet.” She walked forward slightly to address us all.

“Okay, so I’m certain I have some explaining to do. You are probably all wondering what happened to me. Where do I start? Well the doctors cleaned my bullet wounds and cleaned me up. They were positive I was gone so they moved me to the memorial room to wait until I were buried or cremated. Which obviously didn’t happen. But then one day someone was checking up on me and they noticed my hand twitching. I was brought straight into the hospital to have a check over. They kept me there for around 4 months. I was supposed to be going back into the memorial room in a few days but well I’m alive.” I couldn’t believe they hadn’t told me. But then again I probably would’ve latched onto something that could not have been.

“Matthew and some of the doctors had been analysing my blood and vital organs and they believe that my body shut down, stopped working to make it seem like I was dead. My heart stopped, my blood stopped flowing and I didn’t die of starvation or dehydration either. The reason for this is because they believe that the consumed Death serum hadn’t killed me, just… shut me down. My body and brain kept working but I was asleep I guess.” She finished.

I was shocked by the information before me; Tris had completely defeated the Death serum. I was in complete awe of her. Pride for the little Abnegation turned Dauntless girl -no woman- swelled in my heart. It took all of my self-control not to wrap her in my arms and tell her how much I loved her.

A/N

So I used the same explanation as in the first chapter because I was lazy :P

There will be a nice fourtris moment in the next chapter. Remember Tris saying ‘Later’? Well you will find out what she meant.
