Chapter 6

Tobias

"Tris I need to ask you some things."

She took a deep breath; she knew what was coming.

I knew Tris was hiding something from me and I wanted to help and understand as much as I could. The whole death serum thing had some side effects, I was sure.

She nodded and sat down on the bed next to me.

Grasping her hand I started with the questioning, "Tris before you died we had a few times when we wouldn't tell each other things, we would keep secrets and lie. Well I don't want that and I'm sure you don't either. So just tell me what these bad memories are, please, because I want to fight them off with my bare hands." I smiled at the last part, as did Tris. I had said the same thing a long time ago in Dauntless.

"Well, you see, um...when I was -ahem- asleep let's say, I would get these nightmares where I would witness my death from yours, Caleb and my parents perspectives. The pain from each individual was intensified so much; it killed me Tobias, I felt terrible. Then as if that wasn't enough, I would see how, after everything we went through to save our city and fix the Bureau's flawed ideals, it all went to waste. The whole city was started again. And the Bureau kept up with the genetically damaged crap. It made me feel useless. I felt like everything we had done was all for nothing and that I had caused you and Caleb and my mother and my father this excruciating pain and then nothing good came out of it."

She paused to calm herself down and wipe away the few tears pooling around her eyes.

Whispering, she continued, "I thought that, if and when I woke up, everyone would hate me for what I did because nothing changed. I tried to be brave, smart and selfless but I felt like what I had done was an act of stupidness and failure."

I took her shoulders in my hands and turned her to face me.

"Beatrice Prior, what you did for the city, for us, for your brother, was far from a failure. Yes, I don't think you should have done it," she smiled, "but I cannot deny that what you did was selfless and one of the bravest things I've ever seen. I never doubted that you would belong in Dauntless, but small acts of bravery are what we believe in and what you did was an act of bravery so small, yet so big."

She grinned up at me and wrapped her small arms around my torso and thanked me under her breath.

I cleared my throat and she looked up at me.

"Um there's something else, as well..." I mumbled.

"Go on," she prompted,

"Well I want to make sure that these nightmares aren't hurting you. So I was wondering if you possibly wanted to live here, with me."

"Tobias..."she smiled, "I would love to, thank you."

I grinned and pressed my lips to hers, quickly. As I pulled away she pouted.

"You look cute when you pout, I could see you in the orchards at Amity," I teased.

"Shut up," she giggled

I smiled at her. She looked beautiful. I just sat there staring at each feature I had missed over the past two years. The way she got crinkles around her eyes when she laughed, how her eyes seemed to glow in the early morning sunlight, the small and unnoticeable sprinkle of freckles on her nose and her beautiful pink parted lips.

She noticed me staring and I whispered, "I love you Tris,"

She replied without hesitation, "I love you Tobias."

"So what have I missed, Tobias?" Tris questioned later that day after we had made some lunch and got dressed, "What have you been doing?"

I chuckled, "Well, for starters, I was missing you," she rolled her eyes, "um...well I was just going about with stuff, I guess. I started a job at the control centre, just like when we were at Dauntless. Apart from that nothing really." I concluded.

"Hmm, I need to get a job," she declared.

"Okay, well first off, we need to register you as, well, alive."

"Okay, then. Let's go!"

We arrived at the main entrance for the Bureau, looking for the place to register a new citizen and such.

At the desk sat a young lady with short, black hair. She turned to look at us and said, "Hi, there! How can I help you?"

"Hello, well we need to register a new citizen," she looked past my shoulder and her mouth fell open.

"Tris Prior?" she whispered, mouth agape.

Tris look uneasy, "Uh, yes."

"Oh my god, you're alive? What happened?" she questioned, with wide eyes.

"Well it's a long story," Tris tried to drop the subject,

"Oh that's fine! So anyways, I will just restart you old citizenship and let the leaders know of this miracle. Are you going to be living with Mr Eaton?"

She looked up at me, smiling, and replied "Yes I am."

I grinned back down at Tris as the lady made the last adjustments.

"Okay, all sorted! Tris, if you're looking for a job there are many places you can check. Just talk to anyone in your chosen career and they will sort an interview out for you! Have a nice day!" she smiled

We thanked her and then left to our apartment.

As we walked down the corridor, hands joined, we past the laboratory where they create serums, medicines and lots more.

A man in his early thirties with sheets of paper in his hands came running out of the glass doors and stopped right in front of me and Tris, breathing heavily.

"Sorry to stop you, but, Tris Prior! Look at you," he started laughing a bit hysterically, "alive after everything you went through! I am in awe! Oh - I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Lucas Benedict, nice to meet you." He shoved his papers under his arm and stuck his hand out for us to shake. He grasped our hands in a quick and slightly crazy handshake.

"Um hello, Tris Prior" she motioned to herself, "and this is Tobias Eaton," Tris introduced us wearily.

After a brief awkward silence where Lucas just grinned at us, he jumped with an 'ah' and started to talk.

"So, um, yes. I wanted to talk to you, Tris about a proposition I - we have. You see we have been working on some new serums to use for any needs we may have. New experimental cities and whatnot. And well since you are young and seem to have no boundaries when it comes to serums, we were wondering if you would like to test out some?"

I instantly wanted to yell no in his face and walk off, but I stayed for Tris. This could - and I emphasize the word could - be good for her. By doing this she would feel as if she was doing something to help people. But then what if it goes wrong?

"Wow, um, I'm flattered but, I need to think about it. I mean I've just woken up from being dead. I need some time. I will come back to you as soon as I'm ready."

Her answer surprised me. I would've thought she would've jumped straight into it but she didn't.

"Oh, yes that's fine. Just let any of my team know if you want to start working with us. Thanks any ways." He shook our hands once again and then left us in the corridor.

A/N

Soo it's going to get interesting from here

I know where this story is going to go, and my plan is just starting to come into action. If anyone can guess what Tris will decide to do, I will dedicate the next chapter to you. If whoever gets the closest first, will get a message form me.

Love you all,

Kaitlyn
