Enjolras lifted his head to the continuous pounding on the door. He looked from the door to Éponine and saw the color drain from her face, she knew who it was but she wasn't telling him. Enjolras grabbed her hand and lifted her chin so she looked him in the eye, "Éponine, who is it? Who's at the door?" He asked.

Éponine pulled out of his grasp and shook her head and she kept repeating, "He found me, he found me". She walked backwards into the back corner of the apartment rubbing her hands up and down her arms.

Enjolras followed her, "Éponine, you have to tell me who it is. I can help you!" He said to her.

Éponine shook her head and tears ran down her face, "no you can't, you can't help me. You can't save me from him. Enjolras, he'll kill you!"

At this statement anger and fury built up in Enjolras, how could she not think he would protect her no matter what the cost. He placed his hands gently on her shoulders causing her to stop panicking and look him in the eyes. He pulled her into him and kissed her passionately before quickly pulling away, "Éponine, I'm really sorry for this, please stay quiet". Éponine gave him a confused look but before she could say anything Enjolras pushed her into his bedroom and closed the doors "I'm sorry Éponine" he said quickly before locking the door.

He turned away and heard Éponine slamming her fists and palms against the door, "Enjolras, NO!" She screamed to him, "Please don't do this, please! You can't! Let me out!" He ignored her and made his way to the front door, fixing furniture and other items as he went. He needed to see what Éponine was so afraid of.

He opened the door to find a man about the same height and age as himself, with two men flanking him. The man had scars running down his face, and he wore a beat-up top hat on his head. He menacing smile spread across his face, "Greetings chap, names Montparnasse, and I'm looking from something of mine. Have you seen it?"

Enjolras felt his fists clench at his side at the sound of Montparnasse's name but he kept his cool, "No sorry I don't know what you're talking about".

Montparnasse smirked and snapped his fingers. The two men barged into Enjolras's apartment and grabbed Enjolras's arms.

He tried his best to fight them off, but these men were much bigger than he was and soon he found his arms pinned behind his back. The men turned him around and he saw Montparnasse saunter into the apartment looking around, as if trying to take in every detail.

"Nice place you got here, mind if I take a look around?" Montparnasse said with a sly smirk, causing Enjolras's blood to boil.

Enjolras tried to wriggle out of the grips of Montparnasse's cohorts but one punched him in the stomach causing him to double over and gasp for air. Enjolras inclined his head to try and see where Montparnasse was in his apartment.

Montparnasse was opening every door and looking in every room trying to find Éponine. He was nearing the locked bedroom door, but luckily a key was needed to open it and he had hidden it before he opened the door. Montparnasse reached for the handle of the door and tried to open it. The handle wouldn't turn. He let out a cool chuckle, "now of that's not a dead giveaway I don't know what is" he walked back to Enjolras and crouched down so he was at eye level. "Where's the key to open the door, pretty boy? I know she's in there".

Enjolras spit at Montparnasse, "as if I’ll ever tell you".

Montparnasse pulled his fist back and punched Enjolras across the face.

Enjolras let out a pained pant and Montparnasse waved his hand, causing the men to release Enjolras. Enjolras fell straight to the floor and tried with wobbly arms to get up, but Montparnasse kicked him back down. Spots filled Enjolras's vision and he heard Montparnasse order the men to break down the door. The anger that filled Enjolras powered him to stand and punch Montparnasse.

He stumbled but quickly whirled on Enjolras and slammed him into the door at the front of the apartment. He continued to hit Enjolras blow after blow after blow, causing Enjolras to begin to black out.

He fought to stay conscious, focusing on his task, to protect Éponine. Soon he heard the door crack and the two men entered his bedroom. Éponine screamed and a smile curled onto Montparnasse's lips. He let Enjolras drop to the ground and went to meet the men by Enjolras's bedroom door.

Éponine was shoved out of the room, falling on her hands and knees right in front of Montparnasse.

He sneered at Éponine, "Hello Little Ép, long time no see, right!" Enjolras saw Éponine try to scamper away, but Montparnasse grabbed her by her hair and yanked her up.

She let out a pained yell and her hands flew to the back of her head.

Montparnasse twisted her so she was facing him, "No more running, you're mine now!" He screamed at her.

Enjolras pulled himself up with the help of the door and started to make his way over. He picked up a leg from his destroyed kitchen table and raised it to hit Montparnasse but felt a fist slam into his face, causing him to fly to the ground. He was yanked up by his arms and they were pinned to his back once again.

Montparnasse turned around with his hand still tangled in Éponine's hair and looked at Enjolras, "you think you actually have a chance against us? Let me tell you a little secret", he said leaning in close so that Enjolras could see his yellow and moldy teeth, "you are nothing. You stand no chance, she's mine and there is nothing you can do about it".

Enjolras struggled against the men holding his arms, trying to get one out to punch Montparnasse. His eyes flicked to Éponine's and he could see the tears pouring down her face. She never wanted him to see her like this, never wanted him to be there when this time came. Her eyes pleaded with him to stop trying to help her.

Montparnasse laughed cruelly, "Does Éponine actually love someone? It can't be true!"

Éponine turned her face away from Enjolras, trying to make it look like she didn't care, but Enjolras could see that out of the corner of her eye she was looking back at him.

Montparnasse grabbed her small wrists and held them with one hand while turning her face back to Enjolras's with the other. "Don't you have something to tell your love before we go? A final plead to save you? Or a simple I love you?" He said with a cruel grin.

Enjolras could feel the two men holding him laughing with glee.

Éponine struggled to pull her hands and face out of Montparnasse's grasp, but she couldn't get free. She looked deep into Enjolras's eyes, and said with a broken voice, "Let me go Enj, there's nothing you can do to stop this now. I'm-I'm so sorry, I-"

Montparnasse howled with laughter and pulled Éponine away from Enjolras, "well that was extremely touching but we really must be going" he said pulling Éponine along. She struggled against him, refusing to go so easily. Montparnasse picked her up and flung her over his shoulder. He turned back to the men holding Enjolras "do something with him. I don't want him following us". One of the men pulled out a knife and held it in front of Enjolras's eyes.

Montparnasse clicked his tongue, "no no no! I want him alive. He needs to remember that he failed to save his precious love, but I don't want him following us, understand?"

Enjorlas struggled against the men and screamed at Montparnasse, "you bastard! Leave her alone. You don't own her you-" a sharp pain in the back of his head cut him off. Enjolras began seeing spots and the whole world was going dark, Éponine was screaming his name, and he fought to dry conscious but soon the darkness consumed him. She was gone.
