After a while of waiting Alan finally sent us all home to get some sleep. He was determined to wait it out and I tried but eventually fell asleep in my chair.

When I woke up again we were back in the hotel and saw a text on Austin's phone saying that Alan and Angel were back at the hotel now too. I was relieved that she was out but I also wasn't sure how to feel, she still had so much explaining to do. I still loved her like a sister in my heart and that's what was making this questioning of her feel so wrong. At the same time I also had a sinking feeling about tonight, Angel now knew she was a danger to us and had people from her past lingering near, how would she react?

My mind flitted back to the conversation she and I had had in the courtyard of this hotel, when we had stayed here after her ex Michael shot up our old apartment. The thoughts carried me out of bed and to the window where I looked down over the bench where we had talked.

She knew if anything were to happen with Michael it would put us in danger and that day she had wanted to run away. I told her I would always have her back and understood if she did but back then the possibility seemed silly, the promise was easy.

As I stood there looking out into the night and reliving a memory I wish hadn't happened I heard a phone buzz on the night stand. My shoulders instantly tensed as I looked over my shoulder to see my phone lit up. I quickly ran back to it and saw a white star.

'If its a white star I'm okay but if its black I'm not.' I remembered her saying. That was going to be our message system after she ran away to let me know how she was.

My heart fell to my stomach and I instantly typed back the quickest message I could get off.

'No'

It showed her as having read the message but then there was never a reply. This was it, I had made the promise and now I had to stick to it even though I wanted nothing more then to break down into hysterical sobs.

I'd never see my best friend get married and have kids or watch another corny 80's movie with her. I wouldn't have her to lean on when the boys went on tour or her advice and comfort when Austin and I fought. In fact, I wouldn't see her at all anymore. The thought of it brought tears to my eyes and they fell silently as I stared down at my phone, willing for one more reply but it never came.

I dried my tears and sucked it up finally as I climbed back into bed. It was always a possibility this would happen, I know very well how the people you love come into your life just to leave again and now I just have to be okay with it this time.

I curled up against Austin, holding onto him so tightly it actually woke him up.

"Are you okay?" He whispered.

"Yeah, it's just cold, so cold.." I mumbled into his shirt. He chuckled,

"You're always cold." I nodded in agreement.

"I'll keep you warm love." He whispered, kissing my forehead and settling back down to sleep again. As the time ticked by I couldn't bring myself to sleep again and about an hour after Austin fell asleep there was frantic banging on the door. Austin groaned and only moved a little at first but then we heard Alan's voice start yelling and as soon as we did Austin was on his feet and running to the door to see what was wrong with his best friend.

They talked in frantic whispers by the door while I stayed in bed, acting groggy and confused about what was going on. Alan suddenly came rushing over to me.

"Angel is gone!" He said breathlessly. My eyebrows pulled together in mock confusion as I suddenly sat up.

"What?!" I asked in shock.

"She's gone, she left while I was asleep and only left this note." He said, his voice quivering as he showed it to me. "She hasn't texted you or anything has she?"

I turned to the night stand and clicked the button on my phone, making it light up and show him an empty home screen since I had already cleared her texts.

"Nothing.." I confirmed in a soft voice. "Oh Alan I'm-" suddenly he spun around, grabbing the note, and ran back out.

"I'm gonna go ask the other guys and drive around and look for her!" He yelled over his shoulder.

"Wait man, I'm coming with you! I'm not letting you drive right now!" Austin yelled after him, grabbing his car keys and running after him.

Austin's POV:

"Come on man, can't you drive any faster?" Alan pleaded desperately, unhappy that I was following the speed limit. "There's no one around the road is open!"

"We're also looking on the side of the roads though, I don't want to miss anything." I explained calmly. He tugged at his hair, gluing his eyes back out the window once again.

"Do you think she really ever loved me?" He asked softly. I nodded in certainty.

"I know it man."

"Then how can you do this to someone you love?" He said, his eyes filling with tears. "I love her. And I don't care about her past or that she could be endangering us, I just want her here and I won't stop until I find her, she's worth fighting for." He said in determination. "I'd follow her anywhere..." He whispered.

Just then we pulled up in front of Aaron's apartment. Alan jumped out before I had even stopped the car and ran to his door, frantically banging on it with both fists like he had done ours. It was painful seeing him like this, he was never this emotional.

He stepped inside Aaron's apartment as the door opened and Aaron shut it behind him. I decided just to stay in the car because I knew he'd be back out in a matter of minutes. Part of me thought it'd be a good thing. I wanted him to be safe and have a stable relationship with someone truthful and solid but at what price? His heart? His soul?

Just then as I was looking up at the sky, I noticed Aaron's window open and a blonde headed person climb out and run along the roof top.

I quickly pulled out my phone and called Evan.

"Hello? Did you find her?" She asked quickly.

"That was nice acting you did back there." I said bitterly. She sighed, taking a deep breath.

"If you aren't ready to keep something big from your best friend then don't ask. This is her decision." Evan said. "Don't get me wrong, I'm just as broken up over this as him, I never wanted to be in this position. Imagine how you'd feel if Alan suddenly walked out of your life?" She said, her voice cracking. I understood her position and felt bad for her now too. She didn't want this but now she was caught between them with no choice but to take Angel's side.

"I'm sorry." I whispered. "I'll get him home soon, and you're right, I don't want to know."
