Whispering Shadows

Do you wonder why light dissolves from sight
Why does it leave, why does it run and hide
What would it be that would make it so scared
For it’s not the wind, for the wind is dead

Perhaps it is sound that would make it flee
As it squawks and it squeaks, sound it may be
Perhaps its shadows that come out to play
They seem scary when you don't know their name

Here is the secret that shields and protects
But only works when you do it correct
When you lay quiet with your eyes shut tight
Shadows whisper their names when they’re in flight

Listen closely and remember their name
Memorize it as if playing a game
And once you have learned it, all that you do
Say it three times and the shadow leaves you!

But say it three times when they're not around
Shadows come screaming and burn your room down!
