A Poem I Dare Not Write

I compose this poem of rhyme to insight,
instead of a poem that I dare not write.
For if I ink these words I wish to use,
I fear repercussions it may induce.

Simple words inflict such strong emotion;
To pass on fear, hate, envy, depression.
Perhaps cause love, hope, confusion or shame;
With each word I use inflict joy or pain.

To choose words deemed cruel would prove unwise,
the wounds endured will last until you die.
And in time this may lead to your vengeance.
And so I fear I cannot take that chance.

And falling in love with my writing charm,
Chosen words may have flirt and steered you wrong.
And in time this may lead to your vengeance.
And once again, I cannot take that chance.

Instead I choose this time to play it safe;
I choose to induce neither love nor hate.
And if this leads to your utter boredom,
Do not blame me for your feelings of glum.

If I inscribe the poem I dare not write,
emotions of joy or pain come in flight.
Fear not it’s your feelings I am concerned,
but personal harm for me these words earned.
